Re: Out of touch over at 261.com

What a bunch of bs. Sandberg doesnt need anymore money he can take care of the 261 himself.

It is always easier for someone else to spend THEIR $$ (or time, or effort) for your entertainment is'nt it?!?

Whether someone has money or not does not give others the right to appropriate it. If we don't support things we want, they will go away. Welcome to a free capitalist society where people put their hard earned cash to work to earn more money because they can. And people wonder why railfans get a bad name and aren't allowed where they used to be?!

Oh, and as to those who follow the train being a positive PR experience, think again. Many create serious traffic problems and other issues putting a burden on local law enforcement and maintenance forces to say nothing of the railroad's own people. Those of us in the BUSINESS of railroading don't need any more liabilities on or near our property than we already have. So, please ride the train, take pictures of the train clamly and without burdening others or go someplace else.

The person that started that thread on 261.com is not doing her cause any help.  In fact it is hurting it.  That thread is about as unprofessional as you can get.   Yes, every organization faces that problem - so either find a way to deal with it, or move on to other problems.  But to air them out like dirty laundry on your own website?  Speaks volumes.

With the thousands of ways to spend an ever-decreasing dollar in this country, she should be glad that anyone would give it to a steam engine to begin with.

Re: Out of touch over at 261.com

Has anyone heard if there has been any progress in the negotiations with the owner of 261 on renewal of the lease?  The last time I had any first hand information they were pretty far apart on the annual lease payment, and the engine was torn down and sitting in the enginehouse.  Obviously, there is little motivation to continue with the rebuild if it is going to have to be returned to Green Bay.

I believe there are many of us who pay annual dues to support multiple rail organizations, some of which are quite distant and (perhaps) we may never visit again.  While I may understand the frustration of the person in the original post, I think there is another side to it as well.
