Lionel 2009 Volume 2 and Lionel 2009 Christmas Catalogs
Posted by wrawroacx on Sunday, August 16, 2009 4:16 PM

I just heard about an hour ago on the O Gauge Railroading Magazine site on Forums that the Lionel 2009 Volume 2 catalog will be possibly coming out at the end of this month of August. Also, the Lionel 2009 Christmas Catalog is suppost to come out tommorow August 17, 2009. Someone said that they are going to make the Polar Express passenger cars scale size and the PM 1225 Berkshire and Tender actual scale size also. I want to know if this is all true?

I can't say anything about the new catalogs or Scale size PE cars. The Scale size/Legacy PM 1225 is listed in the 2008 catalog item# 6-11146, MSRP  $1289.99. The add on Scale size/Legacy tender is item# 6-11151, MSRP $439.99. You can look either of them up onLionels web site, using those Item#s. I don't know if they have shipped, been delayed or discontinued, but they are in the catalog.

According to the pictures shown at the LCCA convention there will be 2 scale Polar Express passenger cars in the vol 2 catalog. The Lionel execs also stated that the Christmas catalog and 09 Vol 2 would be combined as one catalog.

I would think Lionel web page would say something to the fact as the next catalog was coming out as it normally has a clock at least a week in advance and there normally a comment as to when its coming out. Also normally Lionel times there catalogs with the York shows and the next one is Oct so I doubt it but I do leave a little sliver of hope your right and I'm wrong as I would like to see if there offering more conventional trains/sets as they issued one series of them and haven't heard anything about any more since.

I received an email from Charles Ro Supply this past Friday which showed the new stuff (Vol 2 catalog). A few Christmas offerings -- nothing really new (the usual new "2009" rolling stock)  but a Christmas version (North Pole Central) of the Harry Potter English steam engine in red and green. Pretty sharp, actually...

as far as non-Christmas offerings, the only thing Ro had was Lionmaster Challenger steam locos in UP (black) and Western Maryland (Fireball) livery. Both with Legacy. Sugg. retail of $899.

Then, after being up for a day, Ro took down the Lionel stuff saying that Lionel didn't want it shown on the internet until it unveiled it on Monday, Aug. 17.

Yea, I would definitely get this set. It's one of my favorite christmas movies. It was filmed in Cleveland Ohio, my home state. Also, I thought the old man was very funny with the broken leg, all getting upset. As he said, "You used up all the glue, on propose". She says later in the movie, "Don't waste electricity". Also, in the movie, was that an NYC Whistle or not, when the old man was trying to fix the Leg Lamp in the front window of the house, cause it sounds like a Hudson? I do know that the whistle was added into the movie because it was made in 1985 in Cleveland Ohio on 3159 W 11th St, and diesel was the only thing around at that time and still is, unless there running excursions.

The whistle's at the 3:39 mark in the video. This isn't my video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kuX0od7awk

My home town! But the story was to have taken place around Gary Indiana, which is in my home State now. I think the author was from "the Region" area............... I heard that Cleveland was the closet thing they could find that resembled Gary as a lot of downtown Gary has been demolished.......... but a nice train whistle; a very nice effect. Go to the museum in Cleveland; buy a string of leg lamps too!

Until this year, I lived in the Cleveland area (all my life) and visited the Christmas Story house many times. They have a nice gift shop across the street with an amazing variety of CS mementos, and also a museum with props and such from the movie. So if you like the movie and you are in the area, it's well worth a visit. During the holiday season they are open every day; off-season only on weekends, I believe. Check their website for more details.

BTW, other parts of the film were filmed outside Toronto, Ontario, including the Christmas tree lot scene and Ralphie's school scenes.

The Christmas catalog is already on the Lionel web site.

Lionel catalogs do not tie in with York.  The vol1 catalog ties in with the NY Toy Fair in February Vol 2 is usually timed to allow for pre-orders for Christmas.

There will be scale heavyweight cars painted in Polar Express livery. These cars do not look like the cars in the movie in terms of length, axles, window arrangement, etc. They are just the typical Pullman heavyweight car painted maroon/grey with Polar Express on the sides. The observation deck on the rear car is similar to the one used on the RTR PE set that has been out since the movie first came out. It also only vaguely resembles the car depicted in the movie.

When everything else fails, play dead

Chuck - The Vol2 and Christmas catalogs are rumored to be in stores around 9/1.

It would be nice, but I doubt it will happen, that the cars shown in the catalog are just 'proto-types' and not the actual production cars. At least the coach will have 12 children and the observation car will have 1. Will be interesting to see how they look in person.

Same here.  My order is in at Market Street hardware and Toytown in my town.

If a North Pole Central Rudolph car were available I would have purchased it as well. Someone commented on a North Pole Central topic I had started earlier, that MTH had Rudolph.  I can not see how that would make any difference, as Rudoph is older the MTH! So it appears to me Rudolph belongs to Christmas, so if it is a copyright pay the fee and complete the set.
