LIRR TO NJ! ALMOST!

The LIRR has announced it is offering a single ticket from LIRR points to NJT's new Meadowlands Station for this Saturday's Jets pre season game.  Just change to an NJT train at NYP for the ride!  Instructions have been issued to train crews on how to handle the tickets. Passengers also must change at Secaucus Jct.

This goes hand in hand with the MNRR/CONDOT thorugh train service from New Haven to Secaucus Jct. for Meadowlands events.

Finally regional rail cooperation to make it easier to go from one end or one side to the other side or end of the New York Metropolitan area.  Not one seat rides. Yet.  But the beginning of what I believe to be the course that must be taken for taking full use of the system by the public and by the operating entities.   Can't wait to see what evolves over the next five to ten years!

Don't hold your breath.  Metra and NICTD have been around for years and Metra tickets still won't be honored on the South Shore (NICTD) or the other way around.  No through ticketing, either.

I'm not holding my breath...spending time and effort to praise the efforts and point out where such integration of services can be considered.  About 5 or so years ago a planner with NJT agreed with me when I apporached him on the subject...and in fact told me there were talks going on then for such projects.  These two examples, plus NJT TVM's with SEPTA Trenton-Philadelphia tickets on sale,  are steps toward this happening in this major megalopolis in the upper Mid Atlantic states!

Heh, just don't fall off the miniature platform while boarding your NJT train.

I can't wait for the ARC tunnel station.

Hey Paul!   I understand they WERE honored at the time of various emergencies.   Am I correct?

This doesn't surprise me as NJTransit will obviously be pushing service on their new line into the Meadowlands, which is expected to be used for events but isn't a regular service line.

Re: LIRR TO NJ! ALMOST!

In SoCal if you buy a Metrolink round trip ticket to LA Union Station it serves as a Day Pass on the entire Metro subway, light rail, and bus system.  I wonder how that will change now that they are installing gates and fences in the subway stations?
