Re: Teen Railfan Place - Summer 2009
I'll continue with my trip reports tonight, I went down to Monticello Railway Museum to see the Leviathan and the NS Fs Saturday, then IRM Sunday for Museum Showcase Weekend. Lots of photos and lots of quality power to be had recently!

Re: Teen Railfan Place - Summer 2009
A fairly good week this week, as my streak of bad luck finally ended(rather ironic that it did, given what was shot).
First up, on a quick pass by the BNSF facility, I spot a non-RC SD40-2, one of the first I've seen in a long time.

Next up, I shot down to Saunders and Koppers Junction, not finding anything. As I cruise into the South Range area, I see a train, and surmise that it's the Transfer heading for Itasca Yard. After a quick chase, I head down to the yard just in time to find a J consist.
659 is in the lead.

And trailing is EVIL!!!

Re: Teen Railfan Place - Summer 2009
ok now i am finnal on a new computer & i have caught up on most my pics first we go back to september 1st, my last day of summer, only freshman had to go to school this day so i thought ill spend the day wisely. well it didn't help i woke up a hour later then i wanted to. first all O490 is coming into the small town of weyauwega, they will be going into the siding, they are directed to dump here in town then elsewhere along the line but the herzog operator has to set the train up.
about a hour later 198 shows up
then another hour they have to back up & get off the siding then down the main to dump
this guy i never seen before, pretty funny guy.

now they clear out of town, they move onto anton where they will get a new crew & jump on 301 heres the 301
then i wasnt prepared cuz i was gonna head home for lunch before football practice then the 119 comes, i took this through the window

i have 4 more trips yet to post. 1 from rochelle & 1 from last week & 1 from yesterday

Re: Teen Railfan Place - Summer 2009
Yes, Brent, that is legal. The NORAC rulebook (used in the Northeast, but the rules apply elsewhere) states on page 20 that "If one of a pair of auxiliary lights fail en route, the train may continue at Normal Speed, but the defective auxiliary light must be repaired no later than the next calendar day inspection. If all auxiliary lights fail en route, the train must not exceed 20 MPH over public grade crossings, and the auxiliary light(s) must be repaired at the next forward repair point." If you lose all headlights, then you must turn on all external engine lights (except red strobe), notify the Dispatcher, ring the bell continuously, sound the horn frequently, cross public crossings prepared to stop and no faster than 20 MPH --- UNLESS --- you have operable auxiliary lights. (I think they should have put that part at the beginning!)

Re: Teen Railfan Place - Summer 2009
Nice pix Brent
This is one of those rare times when I actually have something to contribute: NJCL 2312, 7/16/09
This was my first ride on the Coast Line, (well second, but the first one wasn't documented quite as much), and it was a lot of fun. I got to see things that you can't see from accessable trackside places (without tresspassing, such as the Matawan Phase Gap, marked by the green catenary pole at 4:53, which is located under the parkway overpass...).
Part 2, with photos, is coming soon.

I got up at 5:30 today to catch a train to work, in Boston...at sunrise!
I'm going to be exhausted tomorrow night when I'm babysitting till midnight! (Luckily the kids will go to bed around 8:00!

Re: Teen Railfan Place - Summer 2009
Well, one of the last places in the Chicago area that allowed you to sign a waiver and take all the photos you want has turned against railfans. NRE in Dixmoor is no longer allowing access to its facility and is instead throwing people out if they are seen taking photos, so getting good shots of all the rare stuff there is now a thing of the past.
Another recent development is that EJ&E 616, the SD18 is supposedly the shop switcher at Joliet for now. I got a glimpse of it sitting outside the car shop at Joliet today. With CN scrapping SD50Fs, it is amazing to see the SD18 (the high-hood one!) still running!
