Lima Locomotive Co. switchers

Does anyone know if HO models were produced for the 1000hp and 1200hp Lima switchers?  I think Lima's designation for these switchers were LS10a, and LS12a.           Thanks

Re: Lima Locomotive Co. switchers

 R,

The first thing I thought of was Bowser-Stewart, but only Baldwins, no Limas. Perhaps the Baldwins could supply shells that could be used for bashing a Lima switcher?

Other than that, maybe in brass? I;'m not close to my old Brown Book, so I'm not sure if that's an option. It's possible that someone does a resin casting of the shell?

Re: Lima Locomotive Co. switchers

Alco Models imported a brass switcher back in the 1970's but I have only ever seen a few on E-Bay, and they go for a lot of money.

JJL Models makes a resin kit, utilizing a Stewart Switcher Mechanism and it goes for $198.50, RMC had a review of the kit a few months ago.  You won't see a review in MR as it is a kit and not RTR as MR is now in the train set market.  Here is the web site for JJL Models.

There have been a few brass offerings over the years but in 47 years in the hobby I don't recall anyone ever offering a plastic body model.

I don't expect it but I would be in the market for a couple if produced in N-Scale; one of my big hopes for the future is for Baldwin switchers of any and all kinds.

A quick review of the March, April and May 2009 issues show they all have reviews of kits in them.  Stating that "You won't see a review in MR as it is a kit and not RTR as MR is now in the train set market" is not correct or fair to MR.

Re: Lima Locomotive Co. switchers

The "ALCO Models" is the only one I know of in HO Brass. JJL has the cast resin body version. Both are extremely nice. The JJL has the advantage of a better drive from P2K or ATLAS??

I have the ALCO Models LIMA switcher in brass. Even harder to find is the LIMA RS 1200 Road Switcher, I do not think anyone has done this landmark road switcher. This looks a lot like an ALCO RS-3. I bought two JJL models LIMA switchers and am kit bashing them to go on an ATLAS RS-3 Chassis. So far so good. I will post pictures when I get a moment.

My LIMA RS 1200 Road Switcher will be a Penn Central with the EMD prime mover re-power stacks. NYC had these originally and repowered them about 1957.

The LIMA switcher will be painted in B&O. Both units will work the "city line" on Delaware Avenue on my Reading Philadelphia waterfront layout.

Re: Lima Locomotive Co. switchers

Reading an earlier post the JJL Models LIMA's go on a Stewart drive. The fidelity of the JJL models version is excellent. The "ALCO Models" version is above average for ALCO.
