Re: Model Die Casting

Horizon purchased MDC several years back.   Most of MDC's modern cars were rolled into Athearn's line, and many of the old time cars continue to be produced under the MDC/Roundhouse banner.   However, I don't believe the fire fighting train was continued.

Re: Model Die Casting

MDC has been out of business for some years. You might find the train on ebay.

Roundhouse which was MDC/Roundhouse is now just Roundhouse, part of Athearn. They do not have any old stuff. Many people have asked the past few years. Roundhouse stuff now comes from China.

Re: Model Die Casting

Never knew MDC made a fire train, you can always get a brass version (which are magnificent) for @ $ 175,000.00 or your right arm and first newborn son.

Re: Model Die Casting

A Yahoo!! websearch came up with no hits for "MDC Fire Fighting Train" or "Roundhouse Fire Fighting Train". Is it possible it was a different manufacturer??

Re: Model Die Casting

For those who are not very savvy on using the Internet, here is the site for much of the MDC/Roundhouse info.

http://www.hoseeker.net/mdcmiscellaneous.html

I have scanned and sent them the paper sheets that come with my new Roundhouse 4-4-0, 2-6-0 and 2-8-0 DCC steamers.

Re: Model Die Casting

Check older hobby shops in your area if you can, they might still have one of the old 3-in-one kits.

I have the instructions for that kit, it used standard cars that you should be able to find substitutes for and kitbash the rest. I can email you a scan of the instructions, PM me.

Re: Model Die Casting

You can easily download the five pages of instructions at the below link. You need Adobe Reader which is a free download. XP or Vista can handle the PDF files just fine. You can even print the pages right from the web site.

Re: Model Die Casting

Model Die Casting's Roundhouse line had quite a few similar kits in their "3 in 1" line.  They were basically various parts from their inventory which were to be used to kitbash into the kits subject.

I made many of the "3 in 1" kits, and in doing so I learned a lot about kitbashing as their instructions were pretty good.  For me at the time re-starting out in the hobby, the plans, details, how-tos, and materials list were a great help to me.  Most if not all of the kits were marked "additional supplies required by modeler", which was really true.

Many modelers assumed they could make a Jordan spreader, a railroad steam shovel, the fire train, etc., from the box contents.  I picked up some of my kits from disillusioned modelers who gave up on trying to do the kits.

This is how the kit for the steam shovel turned out, following their instructions:

After I built the model I discovered it was quite a way from the prototype, so I rebuilt it to look more like the real ones:

It was fun while it lasted!
