I initially skim through it, removing the little mailer card inserts.  Then I go back and read the whole thing from front to back.

Re: What method do you use to read MR Magazine ?

I usually remove the 2-3 dozen inserts / mailers first. After a rest to get my wind back, I then start at the beginning and go thru the mag page by page, scanning for things of interest - articles that I can use, reviews of products I might want to buy etc. I may stop to read one or two articles, but generally I just look over the whole mag. Then I go back and read the articles I'm interested in.

Only change is sometimes I'll skip ahead to read Tony K's column.

Ooops , Kevin - Forgot to tell how I read the magazine. Generally I glance through it and then I like to read the editoral first , then look at the ads and finally deve into indivdual articles.

I get the Hebrew edition and I read my mag from right to left. Photographs can get a mite confusing; for instance I still haven't figured out what cificaP nrehtuoS spells! I saw that on the long hood of a 2-T04DS locomotive!

I usually read it with the page numbers at the bottom.

I have tried it other ways, but I really get all twisted up following the construction articles.  I'm still not sure how to get the elevated floor on the ceiling for the mushroom track plan.

Enjoy

I was reading mine in bed one night and we had a power failure; I thought for a minute I had gone blind!

Several of the above.

Actually:

  1. Skim-read from front to back (at about 10Kwpm.)
  2. Having spotted the order, I go back and re-read the articles, most interesting to least interesting, at 1100wpm.  (The editorial and Trains of Thought are usually first.)
  3. I look over the ads that might have some value to me - not many, since Japanese prototype kits and RTR are conspicuously absent.  So I look for raw materials and potential kitbash fodder.
  4. The current MR is placed in easy reach, so I can pull it down to check something if i feel the need.

If I was one to complain that MR doesn't have anything for me I wouldn't subscribe.  The last article on Japanese model railroading to appear in MR was written by Linn Westcott.

Although I believe it was in Trains Magazine, one of my all-time favorite articles was about a contemporary Japanese logging railroad powered by 0-4-2T wood-burning locomotives with balloon stacks.  That article came out some 40-50 years ago.

My MR reading method is very similar to that described by most responders: remove advertisement inserts, leaf through the magazine either from front to back or back to front depending on mood noting items of interest and removing more inserts missed earlier, and then go back to read/study interesting or useful articles and advertisements.  I do this over several sittings (unless it was a particularly dull and useless issue) but rarely read everything.

I go through and look at the pictures first, then I read the articles over the next week or so right before bed.

Would reading it upside down during a Yoga class help?

My own method----try reading through 'Spring' sometime----he sees that as a way of maintaining my attention----sitting on top of it so I read through him-----

I read it in the bathroom a little bit each day. I don't look at the ad's unless i'm looking for a particular item. I crumple up the flyers into a ball and one of my cats likes to play with them.
