Converting Athearn Genesis HO F-7A/B Unit from DC to DCC

I have a DC Genesis Athearn HO F-7A/B unit and wish to convert it to DCC with sound.  I have not had it out of the box yet.  Does anyone have a good resource to go to that I can use to do this conversion?  Does anyone know of a reliable company that could do this for me?  In addition I'd like to add lighting kits to the cars.  Any help with this issue also?

A great choice for this loco will be the Soundtraxx Tsunami AT-1000 EMD Second Gen 567.

Which cars (brand)  and lighting kits are you referring to?

Go to http://tonystrains.com/

order the Revolution A which is the Atlas/Athern/Intermountain fomat board  which will snap in place of your existing light board

order the Hb speaker with enclosure

Solder the motor, pickup and speaker wires to the board

Nice sounding engine,  I've done six Funits and they sound awsome

you may have to sand [220 grit] some of the enclosure to ensure the loco shell seats properly on the frame

Any questions, call them, there none better in the business.

Since you have internet access join some of the DCC/QSI/yahoo groups to educate yourself about installations.  Diesels are really easy to install sound in if you take the time to prepare.

Cheers,

The QSI sound set sounds nothing like a 567, imho.  You would be better off with the Tsunami TSU-AT1000 EMD 1st gen 567.

If you go to the Soundtraxx website, you can listen to some sound samples.

I have to agree with David on this one.  Nobody that I've heard sound samples from so far has gotten the "gear shift" sound right for first generation EMD's except for Soundtraxx.  Everyone else pretty much has the engine sound go from idle to run 8 in a nice, even progression.  Early EMD's would throttle up, go back to idle for a moment, then throttle back up under load.
