Re: Years ago they made these scented oils, what were they called????

SteamFreak:

As for those different scents, didn't someone say in a prior thread that they made a manure smell for cattle cars?

Hah, I do remember that thread. Good stuff.

They also sold background sound tapes. One guy locally used the yard sounds tape in an auto-reversing deck at his yard and engine terminal. Played at low volume, it was very effective in setting the scene.

They offered other tapes as well, including city sounds and countryside sounds.

FOUND THEM IN AN OLD MRR MAG

I still have a "Wireless Willie" in the original plastic tube, never did get around to hooking him up on my old layout. IIRC the lantern was built around either an LED or a microbulb, and electrically conductive paint was used to connect it to his feet where there were terminals (actually each foot was connected to a rail joiner) that you could wire up then hide under scenery.

It seems to me around the same time someone had a similar product only it used a little "hot plate" that produced the smell when you turned it on and heated it up.

I had forgotten they were local, I see MPLS MN on the labels, for Minneapolis Minnesota.

I might be very wrong about this, but it seems to me the problem wasn't so much that the stuff didn't sell as that the company got into some legal trouble that caused them go out of business?? Maybe an issue with a patent infringement or something?? Like I say, I could be very wrong but I seem to recall something like that.
