Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

I have many times seen locomotives mis-identified by folks unfamiliar with toy trains who assumed that the "Lionel O27" on the pickup assembly was the model number.  Perhaps something like that has happened here.

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

I just got an e-mail from the guy,he's not sure of the model numbers and he has no way of posting a picture. Can't he get a disposable camera from Walmart and have them put the pics on a disc for him?

He's either truly clueless or a really bad scam artist

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

IF, it Really does value out at the "Around $12,000" that his "Research" on the internet suggets it is worth, and it is from 1927-35, I would suspect (but I am only guessing) that it likely is a Standard Gauge set. But he has supposedly "Researched" it already but can't list any model #s? He is selling a $10-12,000 set, but can't even BORROW a $100 (or less) digital camera to post pics? I would also question his C-8 Condition rating, without having pics, he doesn't seem to know that much about what he has, how likely is it that his condition rating is accurate?

Could be one of those who believe that "Old Lionel=A Good Start on Jr's College Fund" which sometimes IS true, but not as often as many people like to think. This sounds like a Good Example of "Caveat Emptor" Buyer Beware. I am curious to see if he gets any bids, maybe from someone with more Dollars than Sense? That is an awful expensive purchase to be sight unseen.

Doug

Plus he's been an Ebayer since Feb 14 of this year, nice long track record!

If all old Lionel is good start on college money I've got enough in the basement to goto Oxford

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

What is also wierd about this is that he makes no attempt to go any further in his description. No colors, no markings, not even whether it is metal or some other construction. If he has the boxes he says he has, then he can give all the information on them. No, this one is a loser. He will soon find out that $10,000, sight unseen, won't fly in this world.

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

I decided to watch this sale. No takers yet and 4 hours to go. I asked him to post numbers on the box, but I guess that question didn't go through.

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

2 and a half hours left, I've gotten no answers either since the auction first started and I've e-mailed him several times . Like we all thought another scammer or totally clueless!  I wonder if he's watching our reactions on this forum and OGR's (which the moderators shut down) and isn't happy that noones buying it.

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

just sent him the following question "you state app value $2000 but your asking $10,000 what gives you also stated about 6 days ago you would give model numbers is it that difficult or are you just a rip off artist guess you won't send this to your auction for others to see"

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

Time ran out, and not a single bid. I did a google search on hobby shops in Mississippi, and he could have driven to Jackson, to see someone at the hobby shop there to at least get a description, if not an appraisal. He might have even gotten an offer. Better luck next time.

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

Never got a single email from the guy but I did report him to Ebay as possible fraud. Want to give him the benefit of the doubt, he might really be one of those people who think any old train, regardless of condition or the fact at least 2 million of them still survive til today are worth major money. He also may have found out what the set was really worth and is too embarassed to show his face now after claiming it was worth $12,000.00 without really researching it.

Re: LIONEL TRAIN SET MODEL 27

If he didn't know the train model numbers, how could he have done any searching on the internet that was valid?
