Remotor an older PFM Shay

Anyone have the tools and skills to re-motor an older PFM Shay? The pittman motor has died from old age, but the shay itself is in great working condition but needs a new heart. I would like to have a can motor installed, but I lack the talent to perform the surgery.

I have asked around at the LHS and clubs with no positive results.

Any advice or contacts?

 Thanks

Yes, I am able to and have remotored PFM shays with can motors.  I live in Kokomo Indiana and handle the repair work for the local shop.  If you would like a reference, contact The Train Exchange in Kokomo Indiana.  Ask for Jim.   He is there Monday and Friday evenings.  I am usualy there on Fridays as well.  I just regeared and rebuilt my personal Rivarossi Casey Jones Engine.   Thanks  Mike Toney.    cadetpwr at hotmail dot com

Here is the website of a gentleman who does this type of work.  I have not used him so cannot offer any opinion on his work.

Let us know how you make out. I have one of these too and although it still runs I can foresee a tranplant. It was my first brass engine, how about $70.00 brand new from a hobby shop. Those were the days.
