OLD FORUM THREADS

I queried IS and they assure me that all the old threads were carried over, and they should be available again, soon. I quote: "The reason they can not find them is probably because the site needs some time to re-index all the posts back into its searchable cache (memory) "They should have full search functionality again later this weekend." FWIW I believe it took about 6 hours for the files and images that were "current" on trains.com to transfer to the new format, so multiply that a few times for all the old info and images ...

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

Bob, thanks for keeping us informed.  One issue I, and I believe several others have had is that when you go to sign in with your old forum screenname, it asks for your password.  I enter that, didn't work.  Tried the "do not remember password" function and got on.  Then, tried to go to sign in to change password with the one sent:  turns out, my old password will work for that and not the new one they sent.
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

If you log out (the light gray box on the upper right, below the red tool bar), then sign-in again as normal, it should work and restore the screen name. I couldn't log in from home yesterday evening - so after I read about this, I ran home during lunch and tried it, and it worked fine.

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

Bob, What are the green bars under the avatar for?  How are they allocated?  Havn't been able to decipher it yet.  Must be post volume related?  Also the stars, are they just a numerical average?  Notice the rating seems to be anoyomous.

Beats me, energy level? The first thing I thought of was energy level indicator from an old tape player ...

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

Bob,

Prior to the holidays, I was going to repack my PE smoke unit.  There were/are some really good threads out in the forum on how to do this ... problem is, I can't seem to find any of them.

Any suggestions?

Brad

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

Bob: That is OUTSTANDING news about the old threads!!!! That was one of my major complaints and I'm sure glad it is being resolved.

As to the bars under the avatar....they measure your rank in total post counts. Bob and I only have one green bar, so we are Top 500 contributors. Just put your mouse under a green bar for your ranking. The bars really don't mean much. If you post a lot in one of those "Coffee Pot" threads, then you'll have a lot of bars. Doesn't indicate how smart you are about toy trains. Just how gabby you are

Hi Bob,

October 5 is the oldest date I have accessed so far in the archives on a search.  I suppose that things are taking longer than expected.  Any further word since last weekend didn't happen?  Thanks.

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

This has been brought up, and Alex is looking into it.

Since threads like the coffee pot have older posts within them, I suspect it is something in the coding of the search function. The oldest threads I've been able to hook via the search are from mid to late September.

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

Apparently all the forum posts for all the trains.com forums are tough to digest. I just received this from IS:

"This is something well have to keep an eye on.
Due to the number of posts on all 5 sites, the community server program is still going through them all and indexing them for the search, Which is why it is only currently on September. There is not much we can do to speed it up, but we will keep an eye on it."

Re: OLD FORUM THREADS

I noticed the same thing when I tried to reference a post I had made about Legacy problems. No sweat, I can wait
