I notice you are in Sweden, I suspect you will find it much cheaper to buy these European sourced products in Europe. Lokshop in Germany carries a wide range and I have found them good to deal with. Just how big is your layout?, I have found that a 75g pack will cover about 2 square metres. |

My layout will be roughly 4*8 meters on two decks. I've checked the Swedish suppliers but I haven't been able to find anything that I like online. Unfortunelly sometimes(more often then not actually) the price is higher on a European product in Sweden then if I get it from the US. I ordered the Noch grasmaster from the US last week for 139$ and the in store price in Sweden is around 250$. I can find it for about 200$ online in Sweden. We have no compatition and the stores tend to set the same price on everything. But I'm gonna check around. I won't be sceniking anything for quite a while since I'm still building the train room(almost done) but I do like to my research ahead of time so that I know what to expect. How many grams are there in the one cup containers? Not a lot I would guess? It says that it covers 12" by 12" which is not much.

I did find some decent static grass in a Swedish store. 100 grams for 16 dollars. Magnus

Speaking of the Noch Grassmaster, does anyone know how to construct their own static charge applicator? I'm sure I could fabricate one and I'm also sure it would cost far less than the Noch product, even at the best Internet price! Anyone willing to share how to build a static charge grass applicator?

Joe Fugate shows it in his video number five which I highly recommend. Unfortunately electronic goldmine didn't ship to Sweden so I just bout the grass master instead. But it looks real easy to build, even for a chimp like me. Basically all you need is a PVC tube, a plastic cup, a aluminum net and then of course, the negative ion generator. Magnus

That would be a helpful topic! I would like to know where I could get a negative ion generator to make one of these myself. Anyone?

The Electronic Goldmine 12V negative ion generator makes building your own static grass applicator very easy. Unfortunately they seem to be very popular and sell out quickly when they do get them in stock. If you're more of an electronic whiz, you can build your own negative ion generator with this circuit. Another alternative that I caution you to only do if you really know what you're doing is to use the 110V AC negative ion generator from Electronic Goldmine, which is in stock. Here's some details on how you can use the high voltage negative ion generator safely. If you can't make sense out of the diagram at this last link, then don't even try. We don't want any modelers accidentally electrocuting themselves trying to apply static grass!

Thanks Jay and Joe, Your links and diagrams are exactly the info I've been looking for to make my own static grass applicator. Much appreciated. Chris

I e-mailed scenic express and they told me that they do not sell any bulk packs of grass. To bad. Magnus

Maybe they only sell in bulk to businesses, or maybe they just packed the stuff differently because our boss ordered so much, I didn't do the orderding at Dunham Studios. Try WS.
