need help with lionel engine wiring

i am basically new to model trains and well cut to the chase someone gave me a set of trains when i was cleaning the engine i noticed all the wiring inside the engine was apart. i really would like to try and get this guy running so does anyone know where i can get a wiring diagram for this engine. the markings on the bottom lionel diesel switcer blt 8-57 by lionel. on the twosides santa fe and the lower rear blt 8-57 by lionel  just behind the bottom of the cab door 218. it is red from te engine doors forward silver the rest of the way back and a yellow and red stripe onlong the bottom. santa fe writtrn across the front. any help would be appriciated.

You need to post your question on the Classic Toy Trains forum Wolf. This forum is about real railroads and trains not models.

I believe you have the Lionel #218 Alco locomotive in Santa Fe livery, one of the postwar "200" series of which there were quite a few with many similarities but also a few differences. Try this link for starters:

Be sure to study all of the pages, as your version is one of the later ones.

You can purchase many of the parts from Olsen's, as well as many other sources.

georgea- The moderators probally moved the post here from Trains or Classic Trains. They have done this in the past.

You are doubtless correct. What I can't understand is why "the moderators" bother to move the "re-direct" post along with the original post. Why not just move the original post to the appropriate forum and be done with it?
