Modern Horn Units in PW Loco's Q?

Purging through train stuff, I came across 3 units with the circuit boards, speakers and all. I have know idea how long I've had them. I got to thinking why not throw these in some of my older loco's where the horns don't work. I've been surfing arouns for how to do this and I'm comming up empty. I have taken them and wired them directly to the transformer and I just get a toot upon appling power, but when I throw the horn button I get nothing. How can I wire these with the older mechnical e-units and make them work? Thanks

First, we don't know what you have, If the boards are recent they will work with wires only one way. One wire from pickup roller one to engine common(ground to chassis) if it does not work, reverse the two wires and it should.
