Illinoisian Roll Call, lets hear from you
I know Doug "Traction" Murphy is a neighbor. The Deputy used to live around the corner from me. Where are my fellow Illinois brethren located. Give a shout out and be counted. We're the "hub" of this great countries railroads. Stand tall and toot your whistle. Glenview, Illinois - "Hug the Bear"

Re: Illinoisian Roll Call, lets hear from you
Now this maybe a "real long stretch". I was born and raised in Rockford, left then when I was in the 9th grade. (family moved). All family roots still there, those that are still living. Had some relatives in Morris also, Boyd's. The train depot in Rockford, had the Passenger Schedule posted for the 3 trains that ran between Des Moines and Chicago. Their scheduled times, and status was Painted on the wall, status was "Late".

Re: Illinoisian Roll Call, lets hear from you
I was born and raised in Chicago's northwest side in a neighborhood called Sauganash. The high speed Hiawatha (passenger) ran on the rails through Edgebrook, about two miles from my house, but sadly I have no memory of it. The Hiawatha was a big deal in its day and was followed by the Milwaukee Road, and the track is now the commuter rail line. And just 100 yards from my house ran tracks running freight and passenger trains whose rail line names I can't recall because I was very young. The trains stopped running on these tracks, first the passenger line (Chicago and Northwestern?) and later the freight line. The bridges and track over Foster and Lawrence Avenues and other east/west streets remain to this day. Jack

Re: Illinoisian Roll Call, lets hear from you
Champaign, Illinois As someone in a Trains article called it "sacred, central Illinois". I grew up within walking distance of: Illinois Central (later CN) Illinois Terminal (later N&W) -abandoned Wabash (spur line) (later N&W) -abandoned New York Central (P&E) (later PC, later Conrail, later NS) And within a 1/2 hr drive from: Wabash (Main line) (later N&W, later NS) Chicago and Eastern Illinois (later MP, later UP) Baltimore and Ohio (later Chessie, later CSX) Pennsylvania (later PC) -abandoned Nickle Plate (later N&W) -abandoned And I lived with Marx and Lionel!!!! What a great childhood. No wonder I grew up loving trains.
