What is the URL of the JPG file you are trying to post? Computer

The tilde "~" is what's causing issue.  There is a fix that is going to be installed tomorrow morning that should hopefully resolve this bug.  I will post when it's been installed.

  • NOTE:

If folks have not noticed, I have merged in all the various topics that were scattered across the forums this past week into this topic so we have ONE (1) place to look for issues to see what can or can not get fixed.

  • I am sorry you are having such problems. Unfortuantely, TIme marcheth on. SO does tech. ANd this forum moves with the tech! I DO hope you are able to read the posts to your thread here- if your neighbor will let you.

Here in NY, they are spending money to upgrade ALL areas to some kind of high speed internet service-at  a reasonable cost- Though I am not sure I  know what "reasonable" is.{my cost is $35 + taxes and fees/month for cable internet access}. This is being done via  program similar to the Federal Rural Electrification Program many, many years ago to provide electricity to all across the USA. There are two disctinct areas they are concerned about, The Adirondack State Park area and The "North Country". Those areas may have to settle for some sort of satellite connections as wifi-ing the whole Adirondack park seems impossible to them.

I read something interesting today: the class of 2016 MAY NOT even use Televisions ever again!!! They can watch streaming videos on their wifi laptops, their iphones {or other smart phones}, their tablet computers, or perhaps other new devices not available yet!!! ANd they can play their video games the same way.

    My minivan {a  vehicle not available on the market til 1983} does things I don't ask it to do. It has gizmos and gadgets and other Expensive-to-repair doo dads and nick-knacks. These things, {some of them I admit I like} are often designed for our "safety". But I could do without some of them. AND the next vehicle I buy might very well come with SATELLITE radio-that I have to PAY extra for each month/year to listen too!!! My minivan DOESN'T have ALL the features they offer, but I really odn't need mini TV screens for DVDs for the kids...I have no kids. And I am quite capable of opening a door without pushing a button to have it done for me. BUT..admittedly I DON'T wish to drive a  Model T or A!!! {maybe a 1983 Cadillac Sedan DeVille}

I will someday perhaps, be forced into a smart phone to replace my basic cell phone which I use to CALL by VOICE to talk to someone...NOT to "text" them. I won't like it and the BARGAIN "unlimited talk, text, data" plans starting at $45-50.00 are a bit high for me who doesn't use the cell phone that often and only for emergencies. It may be a bargain for those who DO use it thoroughly as a "life partner" attachment without which they cannot do!

I DO use the internet often enough to justify spending that $35++ a month. we gave up dila up, oh about 10 years ago when we needed a good thorough high speed connection to download work documents. It wasn't really a choice.. now dial-up is NOT an option!

My basic point here is this: Time will march on, so will the progress, and some will get left behind...you may be one of them that gets left behind on this matter. While loosing a "customer" may seem important to you...it is not in the greater scheme of things of major concern to those leaders who move forward.. They won't change it back just for you.

You sya you DO have a highspeed option, but it is too expensive. I just said that about the new smart phone "cheap plans". BUT, you may have to pony up the dough, or go without. This isn't the first site to go high-tech, and won't be the last.

I wish you luck, and perhaps Michigan will have a program like NY in the future that will help you out.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

  • Before I pan your new forum design rollout I want to point out that I have tried it on a total of seven different computers; my desktop, my laptop and five neighbors' computers - they were kind enough to indulge me.

It took over a half hour on this try before the forum front page would finally load, counting multiple time-outs.  This may well be my last visit.

I live in rural northern Michigan, and have no high speed access available at home except by satellite too expensive and restrictive to justify it.  That means I'm left with nothing but dial-up access over the phone.  We're so far off the beaten path that our home phone service isn't even capable of providing call waiting, caller ID or any of the other doodads most people took for granted ages ago.  I have not ever had a connect speed greater than 24 Kbps, less when the weather is wet.

It didn't used to take so long for MR's forum pages to load; consequently I was never plagued with time-outs when trying to use the forums.  It is entirely possible that something other than your redesign may be causeing my present frustration loading the forum pages and progressing from one to another, but as I said I tested this on seven computers at six different telephone addresses on my rural road with pretty much the same result.  (I cheated:  one neighbor has high speed by satellite and he very kindly let me sit there for an hour and catch up on my forum reading.)

New designs, glitz, extra options and stuff are all well and good.  But when so much is added to what was, for some of us at least (I can't be the only guy in rural America who loves MR and its forums, can I?) a perfectly serviceable setup that we can't get to it anymore, booo.  Booooo.

I would love no graphics at all except the ones forum contributors upload as part of their posts.  I'm here for content alone, and fancy stuff for appearances sake seems to be restricting my access.  I dream of the days when I could speed from one post to the next, one topic to another and digest the astonishing quantity and quality of this remarkable resource.

My problem, and the source of my frustration and disappointment:  I know darn well how wonderful these forums and their contributors are and have benefitted from them beyond my wildest dreams.  It doesn't seem like I can do that any more.

New designs get a big fat zero in my book.  See ya, folks, maybe, if we ever get hi speed out here. . .

    :(

PS:  IF this finally posts it will be my sixth try to post this comment.  I had to reload the blank 'new post' page multiple times before it would load correctly and completely because of my slow access speed.  It seems that you've made this wonderful resource basically inaccessible to guys in situations like mine.  Believe me - I love you guys but I would do without all the emoticons, text formatting options, spell checker, etc., etc. just to be able to participate here like I once could.  Not a happy camper, folks.  Not at all.

... I read something interesting today: the class of 2016 MAY NOT even use Televisions ever again!!! They can watch streaming videos ...

i turned in my cable TV box about 4 months ago now and i don't miss it in the least.  commercial free streaming video of current, recent or old shows is available online 24 hours/day.  go to YouTube and you can watch trains (all scales) for a year without repeating a clip.

news (cnn.com) and weather (noaa.gov) are always available, too.
...though i've completely lost touch with the Hollywood updates.  :)
    cheers...gary

The issue with images with tildes "~" in the path should be fixed now.  Here is the picture you tried posting yesterday as an example.  Please post if you continue to have problems with this.

  • Post Counts are Back!!!!!!!

    THANK YOU!!!!!!! Thumbs Up

  • with the picture insert bug fix (THANK YOU!), there are a few other minor things you might consider.

    1) it would be very nice to have a hot key to insert a picture or video.  as soon as you post 2-3 pictures, the edit window grows to more than a screen height away from the menu and from that point to insert a picture you have to position the cursor, scroll up to the menu, choose insert, blindly insert the picture, then scroll back down to see the result.

    2) there is an annoying edit window width bug that happens when you insert any slightly larger than the default column width.  hard to explain, but insert an 800 pix wide photo and you'll see what i mean.

    3) i can work around it, but i wish you would go back to not forcing paragraph breaks on CRLF.

    it's annoying,

    not
    being
    able
    to
    do
    this

without having to edit the HTML code.
    cheers...gary

  • So let's see if I understand this.........This is about technical issues, correct so far?

And if someone has a problem, someone (a technician) is supposed to get back to you?

Well a few days back I posted a problem I have while posting from my cell.

Still no response and still having the same issue. My earlier post was typed from my cell and should have read "Let's try this again. Test"

    Please respond.
