What is the best simulator of all time?

  • MSTS dosent have all the Bells and Whisels Ha Ha of Trainz but I feels more real when driving.
    Save the F40PH!
  • I intend to get Trainz 2006 and try to run it, the 2004 version just got the better of me and I threw it out, I keep on going back good old MSTS although a lot of the add-ons can be a pain.

Look on the Railway Museams web page www.lsrm.org
otherwise you have just to come down and visit.....[;)]
  • Agreed nssr9169!
  • for readily avail. TRS2006

    Modelling AT&SF in the 90s

  • [i think you cory is right it truly is memorisisng
  • Going down to the Railroad museam to get the simulator ready for the summer its only $3 for 15 minutes of fun................Real sized fun i might add
  • Anyone know of one that is EASY!? I have MSTS and can't do it, too much detail, too complex.

What I want is something as easy to operate as a toy train, in fact a toy train simulator would be fine, I dont want to learn how to drive a railway locomotive but I would like to be able to 'look out the window' as if a little person in my toy train! Does anyone know of a program that does that?

Very disappointed with MSTS in its demo mode.
  • Thor: if that's what your looking for, take a look at http://www.auran.com/TRS2006/ if you want "toy train" driving TRS2006 has a driver mode that has a simple DC/DCC model railroad style knob to control movement.

The only downside to Trainz is it's newer than MSTS and much more demanding on a computer.

randy joe: Auran Trainz Simulator costs $20.00 USD
Micrsoft Train Simulator costs $5-10 USD depending on where you look

Ham549: MSTS was designed for a realistic driving experiance. The downside is that it it's harder (much harder) to create custom content.
Trainz on the other hand is more open source and creating layouts and such is very simple. The downside is that the train AI is a lot simpler and therefore makes more mistakes.

Both have there ups and downs it all depends on what you like to do.
  • How do you get one of these Railroad training Somulators?

  • Nobody has mention BVE. Granted its only a cab simulator but its FREE . Just ......

    A. download the inital BVE driver program - mackoy.cool.ne.jp
    B. go to any of the supporting sites to download routes and trains from all over the world.
    Trainsimcentral.co.uk
    BVE-routes.com
    NYCTBA.com
  • Alexander,
I'm not sure what you mean, but the simulators I have are Microsoft Train Simulator, Trainz and TrainMaster.
Sites I have visited are-Microsoft, Planet Auran (Australia), UK Trainsim, Maple Leafe Tracks, Aerosoft and UK Trainsim. Add the usual www stuff if you have old kit? But normally just type the name in the search bar and ERNI do's the rest.
I have been running MSTS for the last three years, it is a long learning curve but quite rewarding, when it runs right.
I couldn't get the hang of Trainz 2004, but have just ordered Trainz 2006 plus add-ons, the write-ups I've read are favourable (I like some of the graphics). As for TrainMaster, PI engineering, the manufacturer of TMTS are so loaded down with their mainstream business of making full size simulators and remote controls, they have put our interests on hold.
I believe the starting price for a full size control stand replica is about $5,000.00 US.
    Hope this helps.

  • My 2 cents [2c]Bought & tried MSTS some years back.   It crashed my laptop. Pretty frustrating. Was watching someone who had purchased Trainz a couple of days ago at work. Looked interesting. I may buy a copy .
