  • As I've been playing Microsoft Train Simulator, I've been able to start the train and everything, but I can never tell which stations I'm at, and the routes get really boring after a while (especially the Amtrak NE corridor). So, what am I supposed to do?

  • ok, I know the answer to this is going to make me look stupid, but how do you get the helper to ...well, help? I figured if you added one, it would be controlled from the headend, but when I view it, it is dead weight, no exhaust or engine noise, and as i try to make it over Marias pass, I end up sliding backwards.

I have added Mapleleaf Tracks on to my Microsoft simulator and now have several ways to go. One problem I have on both is, when picking weather conditions, if I pick snow, I get a failure and shutdown. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have. You just need to go to troubleshooting.
  • Amtrak's NE corridor is designed to challenge you contoroling the train at high speeds and making sure your passengers don't get disturbed while you try stay on time. If you want scenery go on Marias Pass or Hisatsu line.
    Good Luck.

In the event editor you can make up new activities, I think. I'm not sure how to use it and gave up on it. Or you can play the same activities over and over until you get perfect at them.

Usually I just use my imagination and make up stories about why this train is going where it is and why it stops when it does. I also use the explore route to practice getting used to a locomotive or route before I do the activities.

Someone suggested using real maps. I find it difficult to get a good internet map and a road atlas isn't too good because they don't print tracks. I'd suggest writing to the tourism office of the state(s) that the routes go through to get a state highway map because those usually have tracks on them.

Trains Magazine at one time was printing detailed cross section fold out maps of particular routes and had hoped they would do the Marias Pass but unfortunatly they discontinued that series. I'd like to see them do maps on Marias Pass, NE Corridor (DC-Philiadelphia), and Cumberland, MD to Rockwood, PA (the Sandpatch Route of the Chessie System, an add on to MSTS by www.mapleleaftracks.com).

Here's really, really, really hoping! [:D]

In regards to your problem, trying to identify the stations on your simulator, Why don't you try to find a copy of a map for the routes you run? If you do it that way, then you will be able to do what you stated earlier. My name is Ralph, and I am a former Tower operator with the Indiana Harbor Belt R.R.
