Teens getting made fun of...

  • Actually my friends are coming to understand the importance of the railroad in American Culture. EVERYTHING we learned so far in SS had to do with the railroad as a prime factor. They seem to start liking it. But..who cares? I like it, that's all that matters. I Have a Milwaukee 261 shirt too lol.

I am 16 and I am not made fun of at all except for one person(but thats because Ive beat him in airsoft so much which is similar to paintball).  My close friends know that I like trains and one of them even had me come to his house to help him work on a little set that he had away in a box for a while.

Airsoft wars are so fun. What kinda gun do you have?

I use to have a wal-mart brand M-4, a mini electric and a spring pistol and now only the spring pistol works.  But I hope to get a job this summer(im 16) to buy an ICS M4 and a KWA G18c(both of which are my favorit) but the main reason I need a job is to pay off my mom from which I owe her money that I spent at the Milwauke train show and the Madison train show *(which now amounts to My 2 cents [2c]X1000). Also to buy some BNSF coal cars, maybe a  one or two tower 55  BNSF new scheme engines, and some Amtrak stuf like some Acela cars and an engine.

When it comes to being teased I dont walk up to everybody and say Hi I LIKE Trains, but if they ask about my hobbies or intrests then I will tell them.

Oh and about shirts with trains on them I have one with a BNSF dash 9 in the New scheme(wedge, shoosh, New image, or Heritage 3, all of which mean the same paint scheme). I also have on with 2 BN SD60 MAC's going over a bridge, and Green Bay western 315 which I got to see at the Green Bay RR museume when I went there.

1 BNSF 2 Amtrak 3 UP 4 everybody else I try really hard not to have to try hard at anything hard at all because that would be hard I never recommend my recommendations

i was made fun of in grade school for likeing farm toys & farm equipment. the school i went to for 2 years was surrounded by farm life & at recess i woud want to sit next to the field & watch them work. & i was made fun of when i came into the city to go to school. & i was always made fun of how i would like to talk about the country life. then i liked trains & i they said who lieks that stuff anymore & they say working as a railroad worker is for people that aint you. & i would be teased for wearing john deere shirts to school. so i have it worse then alot of people

  • When I was in high school many years ago (I won't say how many) I wrote a theme in English class.  We were supposed to write on a subject we enjoyed and I wrote about model railroading and the joy I get from watching the trains run and building layouts.  I was scared to read it in class but I did and I got a B for my efforts.  Some of the kids made snide remarks during my presentation but, afterwards, a few of them came up to me and asked questions.  No one ever made fun of my passion for trains and I have continued to enjoy them to this day.  A lot of times, the ones making the biggest todo of your zeal for "toy trains" are the ones who wish they could have the same thing.  Find the ones making the loudest noise and invite them to an upcoming train show.  Let them see first hand the detail that goes into a good layout and the thrill of watching the trains run.  As likely as not they will change their minds or at least quit the jeering.  Good luck and don't ever give up your love of trains.

Contrary to what you may have heard, even back when trains were supposed to be a main stream interest (the 1950's) and names like Lionel and American Flyer were supposed to be respectable, people would tease you about your interest in trains.  It happened to me repeatedly during that time and it got worse as I advanced through my teenage years.  Unlike a lot of my contemporaries, I never lost my interest in trains. I also never let the teasing bother me and you shouldn't either.  Never forget, it's your hobby, it's not illegal, immoral, or fattening, it doesn't cause anyone harm, it can be a springboard and a stimulus for curiousity about a myriad of things (model building, electronics, history, geography, the-way-things-work, etc.), and at the end of the day, it can be a source of pride and relaxation (nothing like sitting down to an operating session with something that YOU created).
