New photography equipment?

I'm not into photography, although I do like to see other people's pictures. I am also not near a major railroad yard and the nearest track is about 130 miles away

I usually use a CamCorder but i want to take pictures of freight cars too. But I dont use it to much because the biggest line by me is 45 mins away. This dose not have to do with this subject but if anyone knows of good sites with NS or CSX freight car road numbers please e-mail me at [e-mail]. Thank you. I think it is time I invested in a new camera. With a Mamiya DTL 1000 given to me back
in70's, built like a battleship, heavy, etc. I plan to update to a digital or more likely a
camcorder.

I shoot with a Sony Digital Video and Nikon F3 . I want to upgrade to Nikon or Canon Digital SLR still camera. I would prefer a Digital SLR, but considering that the police have told me and others that it is taking any photos are prohibited in stations in New York, Washington DC and even Baltimore (yes during the NRHS convention believe it or not) , I think that a smaller camera would be better for grab shots. Having cameras hanging around your neck can draw too much attention. One that just slips in a pocket, shots a decent picture and back out of site would be handy.

Still using 25 year old plus Olympus OM-1 bodies and Zuiko lens.First casualty this year,after train chasing across Britain, Europe,USA and Canada - Peruvian dust finally ground a lens mechanism into failure! It can be repaired,but the cost exceeds a good quality second hand one. I wonder if the same can be said for electronic/digital/camcorders? Will they still be around and functioning in 25 years time, even if well cared for?
Look forward to seeing some of you colonials over Christmas/New Year if you are around Cajon/Beaumont/Afton-Cima.

Am planning on upgrading my current camera from 3MP digital to 6MP digital in order to possibly have some model/prototype photos published. Still, will not abandon my old, faithful 35mm.

Not much interest in Digital, but I love film and collect cameras too. New additions are always in the offing, and adding to my regularly used bits is always on the shopping list.

I answered yes because I just got a new Olympus C-5050 Zoom 5 Megapixel and while it is basically a point and shoot it is a high end camera and the results so far have been great. And just like dharding above, I needed a new printer too. I add this to my 2 Pentax 35mm SLRs.

I am a professional photographer and am still partial to film. I do use several top of the line Nikon Digital cameras in my business but still prefer to use film in 4x5 and 21/4x23/4 to 35mm. Railroad photography has been an interest since the late 1950's
and update with new equipment guite often.

I plan on buying a Canon digital 10D. I have a Canon G2 which I used recently to take "discreet" photos in the New York subway.. Obviously the 10D will be a lot more visible, but I wanted to be able to use some of the available lenses.

Very pleased with the Canon G-3 4MP I bought Oct '02. Finally using the whole digital darkroom system with PS Elements on a 1.8 GHz CPU. Time to enjoy the hobbies is always short, but rewarding and downright fascinating!

Santa can't keep a secret -- his elves told me a new Canon Digital Rebel is in my future.

Truth be told, it's hard to avoid tripping over it in my bedroom closet. And to think I can't touch it for three weeks!
