  • There is one ex Green Bay and Western, Ex Wisconsin Central caboose that is used for back up moves in Appleton WI. It is used almost daily on the weekdays some weekend jobs also. They keep it at the Appleton yard when not in use.

  • I'm a newbie to this site.  Hoping somebody can help.   Our park system has an old WC caboose that needs painting.  Is there any sort of formal or suggested process for painting this caboose?   How does one go about finding out the original paint colors.   We want to make sure we do this right.

Does it matter who paints it?  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

  • Thank god for photos....or the memorys would just fade like the paint!

Thanks for the pics, Ed. Went to take my own and post them, but the batteries in my camera were dead.

    Most
of the site work was done on Monday oflast week, and the cab was up and
on display by Tuesday of last week. The official unveiling is scheduled
for the weekend of August 4th.

    Who's "Ed"?

  • Brent, I like seeing your questions and the like, but please learn how to spell. Using "&" all the time doesnt help either.

  • There is an old Wisconsin Central caboose in Manitowoc that CN still uses when they have a switching move north of town to a lime quarry in Rockwood, painted similar to the one in your photograph.
  • thanks for the pic,

im not really suprised to see what it turned out like. the CN logo & the http://www.cn.ca/ kinda runied it. i was picturing it back in wc colors. also was this caboose ever numbered? i know thier was 5 ex milwaukee rd cabooses &  that was one of them.  i know  the 16 in oshkosh is a old MILW. but i have no idea where 17 is ( not the remote reciever)  & their  is some more numbers that i dont know of.

anyways heres a pic when it stood along hwy 41. & that brings back good times. i loved seeing that caboose their when i traveled down the rd.

  • I went to North Fond Du Lac today and the Wisconsin Central "tribute" caboose is finished and on display in a city park.

  • There is an old WC bay-window caboose by the marina in Oshkosh.  It looks to be in GBW colors, but the WCL shield outline can still be seen on the side.  It's # is 16 and appears to have been in the same spot since 1992!
