  • That is ridiculous and uncalled for slander against P2K! I will not allow it!

    P2K > Genesis.

Guess what? It's time for a crappy 400 ISO preview of my C30-7s!  Apparently the viewfinder shows more than the film....

Where did you get those loco's I just watched the Dream-Plan-Build Railroads and Steel and they had those on there and I wanted to get me some of those and I'm a eastern boy! Lol Mike

Factory Direct Trains. They're selling them cheep! They cost like a third what they would have had I got them at the LHS when the Canadian dollar was worth like 70 cents US....

  • I've been experamenting with night photos:

I don't know which one of these I like better:

Extra 408 passes the New Poland, NH depot as another train waits behind it getting helpers.

The Extra waits on the other side of the pass for the train behind it to pass.

Train 406 approaches 408 on the other track. After it passes, 408 will switch to track 1 and follow it.

  • Are you sure Lord Atmo? I would watch it, and if no one bids on it the last minute I would bid. P2K's are really nice, I have 2 and soon to be 4 now.

Tyler I'm having trouble seeing your photos. They don't load on my computer and when I right lick and open link it shows "Google Error 405, Forbidden".

EJE, I like that photo looks nice.

Well thanks to Brent I got the SB today, and it was very surprising.

When Brent called me from Tomahawk he said that the SB left the yard, around 12 o'clock. It wasn't the ICs, but a good substitute. WC 3025. So at 12:30 my cousin and I headed down to Gilbert Park to catch the SB. Brent said it was a short train so I wasn't expecting much. For a blasted 30 Minutes in the freezing cold I waited out side while my cousin stayed in the warm truck. I was bored so I took this picture of a WC emergency sign.

Now right when my Cousin cut the engine in the truck and Came out I heard the horn. Wasn't sure I was imaging it. But then I heard it a few times more and I knew it was real. I saw it coming around the corner at a pretty good clip. Nice to see a WC leading. Here's the next picture I took. If you look toward the left middle, you can see the end of the train. Just a few boxcars. This is the shortest I've seen this train. Usually it's long, almost 100 cars.

My Cousin and I packed up and went to the South yard. We got there just in time as 3025 was just about to round the corner. I got a few more pictures of her.

Trailing her is IC 6114. This is probably one of the best looking WC GP40s out there. Looks even better than WC 3000 and 3002!

Almost home Brent called again and said he was at the yard. The locos was on the engine tracks. Now I wish I knew what the NB was.

  • And, the Athearn SD45s arent even Genesis Matt. Atmo, an older model? P2Ks have some of the best details out there, your out of your mind if you think the athearn ones will look better. Im still going to love the Athearns if they dont mess up on the paint, but P2Ks are much better detailed.

    Jordan, very nice catch!

well, i have about $7.00 right now too. and i dont have paypal. so evilbay isnt where i buy my models. that plus those P2Ks have been around long enough to go down in price. i would pay $50.00-$60.00 at most for one. i got my genesis SD70 brand new for $47.50 after all

  • Ya, because the Genesis are Athearns and Kato makes better SD70MACs. Atmo, I got my CSX SD70MAC cheap too, but dont you think there might be a legit reason behind the P2Ks being expensive? GASP, maybe because they are better engines?

  • Well, I got a report that WC 3023 is now in CN paint. It was bound to happen someday, sadly. I am looking into a Athearn Genesis IC SD70 for Christmas. I went by Homewood today and the fake WC SD40-3s are really starting to line up there. I didn't see the 3023 there, as it is still in the shops getting yellow reflective taping. The ex-GCFXs are being struck from the roster at a pretty quick rate now, as last time I went there were 3 retired. Now there are over 20 stored, including some og the unpatched ones as well. Here are some photos from today's trip.

The deadline really hasn't changed all that much, other then the fact WC 7504 was sent for scrap.

A filthy UP SD40-2 pulls out of the yard for head room with brand new baretable cars.

A neat consist of two GTW engines, led by a GP9R, pulls up to the signals.

These three C39-8s, two of which are lettered for Savage Alberta Railway, sit in a deadline.

Another deadline, the third engine is WC 7637, the last SD45 on CN property.

The GTWs depart, quite nice hearing that GP9 throttling up!

Well, its time to see what the EJ&E is up to!

What have you been DOING to the poor thing? My P2k SD45 is THE best runner and hauler I've got!

I bet you burned out the headlight by running it on DCC...didn't you read the instructions? Tongue [:P]

I really don't know what would make it such a jerky runner...take it to someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at it.

I'm sure anyone who's owned a P2K SD45 will argue that they are MUCH better than Athearn.

Ty: You can't directly post pictures from google here

Everyone else: You have to download the picture.

The third picture is my favorite, I think. Problem is, all your pics are headlight halos and reflections off car sides. Needs more interest!

Robbo: Loving all that rare power! I've been wondering what became of the SAR C39s...and the GT consist is PRIMO!

  • Robby, awesome catch on that UP SD40-2 and the GTW units. That GP9 im sure is being looked at by the head man of the power department thinking "how the hell is that thing still here!".

Atmo, I agree with Matt. Take that SD45 to a hobby shop to have them look at it.

  • my LHS doesnt have train experts. they deal a broad range of models, trains being 1 of those ranges.

wait...DCC burnt the headlight out? you mean P2K cant run on DCC with working headlights?

    FAIL! ATHEARN WINS!

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • What HAVE you been doing to that poor thing? My P2Ks are my best locomotives next to my Atlas. There might be reasons why the P2K's light bulb went out.

    1) Bad track work. Alot of abrupt stopping and starting can be the blame for that.

    2) Too much voltage to the light bulb from miss wiring it to DCC.

    3) Bad DC controller. There are bad ones that have large pulses that can reek havoc on an engine.

Some reasons for it be jerkey is..

    1) Bad track work again. If you don't have to many feeders. The jerkeyness could also blame to the brunt out light bulb.

    2) Have you lubed it? Not all brand new trains are ready to go. Some need more lubing than others.

    3) How clean was your track? If any dirt get in it can be horrible to the motor.

  • GRRR!!!! I hate Picasa Web Albums! Here's the photos on Photobucket! Do these work for you?

Extra 408 passes the New Poland, NH depot as another train waits behind it getting helpers.

  • Tha's be'er. I have some night pics in the mail to the developers right now, can't wait to see how they work out...I did a TON of bracketing, so at least one better work out!
