oh lord i have seen about 3 SD60Mu's and 1 SD60M in Altoona. some really ugly machines if you ask me. not so much the SD60Ms, but they ruined the otherwise awesome SD60 look nonetheless:
i've seen this SD60Mu about twice i believe.
and here's the SD60M with another SD60Mu
Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.
I think they used that before WC abonded the old MILW line up to Heaford Jct. Not sure if WC bought the TR main up to Bradly, I'm postive though they did. But I don't think they use it any more. It was inbetween some really old MOW equpiment.
If any of you guys have the chance to go up to Thomahawk check out the TR. It's a nice RR and easly to find there yards, offices, and shops. The people who work there are very friendly too.

K&A, CSX doesnt run up by me in Minnesota, but I do get to see alot of their power on the BNSF, and the CP has CSX once in a while too.
Last night, a friend of mine was on the CP Train 396, which is a Superior to Saint Paul grain train, and he had the CSXT 8707 (one of only 10 original pre merger SD60s) in YN3 paint, with a YN2 C40-8W trailing. He came into Northtown at around 11:30, I got a shot of him through the fence while waiting for amtrak and then shot a short video of him at the other end of Northtown. The shot is

And the video is

The video turned darker on Youtube, so sorry about that. Another thing the video didnt pick up was him hanging out of the window when he went by!
All in all, it was a fun experience, wish he would have stopped somewhere else though so I could have gotten a better shot.

Great shots and video, Alec! I guess this pretty much proves we still see the same stuff all the time, because I saw CSX 8703 last weekend!
Not much going on here lately since the trip to The "J", at least until I make the annual Thanksgiving trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. They do have the Pioneer Zephyr there, so at least there will be something for me to see! I do occasionally go to the CSX at Blue Island and Dolton, but my main point for visiting either of those spots is the Indiana Harbor Belt and Iowa Interstate. CSX actually has a yard right in the Joliet area in the small town in Rockdale and sometimes some old GPs sit there. They also own the old Rock Island tracks from Joliet to Bureau, which is near Rock Island, but Iowa Interstate uses it more then CSX, and unfortunatly, they always run at night now that the days are so much shorter. The problem with CSX around here is a lot of their engineers are rude and report anyone taking photos to the CSX Police, who in turn think they own everything including public property. CSX has nice power and the YN3 looks nice, but their management is not the nicest.
That's not the case here, they're very cool to railfans. I've recieved 3 (extremely) short cabrides, every crew waves at you when your trackside and a crew used to say hello over the scanner to me a couple years back. In fact, one crew member, who was a railfan/modeler, asked me to come get a picture of a car he wanted to model. In return, he let me in the cab of "his" C40-8W!
WCT, Your friend got pretty lucky, those SD60s are hard to find, but they do show up every now and then down here. I haven't seen one since last spring.
I don't really have any railfanning spots near me, at least not any I can get to by myself. We live about 5 miles away from a line getting about 1 train a day, that's the only one acccesable by bike without going on highways and having to cross over (gasp) Rt. 9, 4 lanes wide, and really insane traffic. The old B&A is on the other side!
I had no idea there were so many other teens on here!
I live about 10-15 minutes from a very well known spot, Joliet Union Station, known for being where the Santa Fe, GM&O and Rock Island crossed. Of course, now it is the BNSF, UP, and Metra with the occasional Iowa Interstate, but it is still a great place that I recommend for anyone that visits the area. Sometimes even EJ&E can make a appearance there, but it is a very rare occurance for them to head up to JUS. The EJ&E yard is just a few minute drive from the station.
By the way, I now have a brand new (if you call a month old brand new) video site! http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=EJE665 there are no videos on it yet but I will probably put a lot of the stuff from my other video site on that one when I get a chance, so stay tuned! I'm hoping to have a lot of EJ&E stuff on it soon. I'm sure nobody is surprized I took the time to make the entire page EJ&E orange and green.
