EJE818  i sure hope they bring some SD38-2's up here.

LETS GO TIGERS! (clap, clap, clap clap clap )
  • Brent, now you don't have to go off on the Cubs like that. Wink [;)] Delete the ubs from it amd put N and you are set, lol. I could have a long conversation about it, but I don't want to throw the entire thread off. Alec, it is tru UP would patch the SD38-2s, yuck that would look terribe. There is one funny thing that has happened now that you brought up patches. Some employees at Kirk Yard put CN in chalk on the front of SD38-2 672, do one of them already has been patched, at least until the rain last night. The writing probably washed off of it. You could get some EJ&E power in the Twin Cities also when the merge happens. I would not rule that out, but like the Stevens Point thing, I would possibly follow them up. I know I would if I got a chance. Unlike the DM&IR, just about anything is capable of pulling EJ&E trains, so the 38s will probably not be confined to the EJ&E. Sounds like traffic on the "J" is going to increase, but I'd rather have less trains and EJ&E engines as crazy as that may sound. Almost all of the UP trains on the line are led by AC4400CWs it seems with a occasional SD90MAC. Jordan, I noticed your signature and I just want to say EJ&E is not a loved regional, the reason being some people going around how rude they are to people taking photos, but I have not once had problems with them. All the EJ&E employees professional about what they do, and have said they encourage me to get photos. EJ&E is unknown to a lot of people and I consider it a hidden treasure waiting to be found. I can't wait until the winter. The bright orange photographs well with snow on the ground. I'll post some photos from this past weekend as soon as time permits.

  • well it's me again, stumbling around the yard in town. I heard 2500 was back, but I never saw her. Maybe she's the switcher, but I dought it. Anyway I didn't catch 2500, but I did catch WC 3014, which I already saw, and IC 6020.

EJE, if if other people didn't like the RR, you did. And that's all that really matters.

  • so true, its your own opinion that counts.
LETS GO TIGERS! (clap, clap, clap clap clap )
  • Yep, that is true. I am probably one of the biggest fans of the EJ&E you could talk to. There may be other out there somewhere who like it better than me, but I feel I am pretty high up there among EJ&E fans. Usually when I talk about the EJ&E they ask me why is EJ&E against photos. I just tell them, well, I don't know who you've been talking to but EJ&E is very nice to people taking pictures of it, as long as it does not involve trespassing. I have never been questioned by any employees of the EJ&E and I hope to keep that record going. I know quite a bit about the motive power, past and present, from the centercabs to the SD38s. I am trying to spread the word that EJ&E is worth a visit if you are in the Chicago area, and I think it has worked. Now with the merger coming it makes EJ&E that much more worth a visit while it is independant. It was the same with the WC, and when that merger was announced, I was at CP LaGrange on the IHB where lots of WC powered trains could be seen, and I plan on doing the same with EJ&E. By the way, I have seen photos of the new CN SD70M-2s so enjoy the IC SD40-2s while you can. The deadline at Homewood now includes several GTW GP9Rs and CN SD40-2Ws, but those weren't retired because of the SD70M-2s. Nice photos, Jordan, and nice catch on the IC 6000 series 40-2. That engine could have its days numbered.

  • thats somewhat of a good lash up. all EMD, a GP40-2LW, SD40-2 & a GP40. i also like how the engines were facing. since mot many trains have that lash up forward backward forward. but ya 2500 should of been their.
  • EJE, and Brent. It was pretty nice to that IC there. It's going get pretty boring here once they go. I'm not sure if I will RF any more soon. With the possable IC's going, I have mixed feelings. I want to keep on going because of the GP40s, and the GTW locos, and now with the EJE power. But once that's gone I really don't know. I may still RF because of the EMDs, but then it's really going to be the same. I really don't know. It sure was nice to see 3 EMDs. In the future this may not be possable with the Dash 9s coming. I've been seeing alot larger power here on the line. I just can't see a SD70ACe, or a Dash 9, or a SD75i comming up/down this line day after day.
  • Neat catch on the 2500, WCfan, and the IC locomotive too (though somehow they always look wrong with the yellow frame stripe). Once the IC and WC power goes, it sure will make the CN a heck of a lot more boring. More reason for me to just stay down here in the land of SOO, BNSF, and the WSOR I guess...

  • Jordan, when you see a EJ&E you will like it, I 100% guarentee that. The bright orange usually photographs quite well, especially in snow or close to sunset when the orange paint will glow. I forgot to mention, I saw my first KCS Southern Belle painted SD70ACe last weekend. Looks a lot better in person than it does in photos. Very colorful paint scheme that is hard to mistake for anything else. It wasn't in the lead but I am looking forward to seeing more of them, preferably leading. The EJ&E probably won't show up right away, but it may start showing up. I don't see anything limiting where they could run. I'd honestly would prefer if they stay in the Chicago area, but I'm sure they will go into Wisconsin and Minnesota occasionally, but nothing is for sure until the merge happens. Here are four photos I have taken over the last week.

Thursday, the same day as the EJ&E night shots, BNSF 8867 heads through Westmont.

Saturday: NS 9694 leads a eastbound stack train under a new signal bridge in Berwyn, approaching LaVergne.

BNSF 5074 heads east through Riverside. The historic Riverside water tower stands directly above the engine.

A pair of cascade green SD40-2s pass the historic Riverside water tower.

  • What a funky tower! Then again, it's pleasant change from most water towers!

    (8) I like a small town...always know where you are....and then if you don't....you don't have to look far....for the water tower where...the name is printed up for all....in letters ten feet tall.. (8)

  • It is a nice change froma regular water tower. That one got renovated a couple of years ago and it almost looks like a castle-like tower now instead of a water tower. I think it looked better the way it used to look, more like a water tower. Thank you for your kind words!

  • have you seen that athearn has an HO scale model of a SD 38 in EJE paint? it looks nice

    personaly im ordering this one:

there bouth nice looking models though.

LETS GO TIGERS! (clap, clap, clap clap clap )
  • There are white chevrons on the back of that Athearn EJ&E SD38-2. Totally inaccurate to have a J-ball on the front and chevrons on the back, plus all of the engine numbers available were sold to DM&IR before the chevron scheme came out. I already have quite a few models of EJ&E including two SD9s (patched DM&IR and Outer Belt), a chop-nosed ex-B&LE SD18, two SW1200s, a NW2, GP38-2 703 in both the outer belt and J-ball logos. The J-ball 703 was the one the EJ&E itself sent me free of charge, and found the outer belt painted 703 for a very cheap price. I also have a J-ball Kato SD38-2, 665, my favorite SD38-2 on the system. I caught another EJ&E train with SD38-2s 670 and 661 leading a rail train. Here are two shots.

Note there are two unique features on 670, it is the only EJ&E SD38-2 to have a B&LE style sand filler hatch on it. It was moved on 671-675 when they came over. Also the position of the ditch lights is unique on 670.

  • last night my dad and I went railfaning, no pics though it was kinda "spur" of the moment the last GTW swicher here in town was swiching the dunn paper spur. they were by the ST. clair river and there were some fishers my dad and i made it to a small platform close to the tracks while i here WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU DOING GET OFF THE TRACKS!!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY!?!?!?!?!?!!??! I thought that the breakmen were yelling at me and my dad becuse we were crossing the tracks like 100 ft away and the train was moveing. (i am smart enough to know when to cross and when not to this was safe to cross in my mind) it turns out that a fisherman was walikng back to his truck about 10 ft from the front coupler of the train. the breakmen told the engeneer to stop.(personaly i would have not told him to stop) so while the breakman on the right side of the train yelled at the idot fisherman. the one on the left lectured the other fishermen. i have a feeling that the one on the right side got the idots licens plate number. and my dad and i are laughing so hard becuse the guy only would have had to wait one minuite to cross and now he is getting a ticket and lectured about railroad saftey.

i thought it was quite funny
