today,
i had to take a trip into neenah where i go to the orthodontist. well one of my brackets on my bottom set of braces wasnt cemented on all the way so i had to get that fixed. well after that i took a pit stop at the yard. i saw some stuff.
CN 4704 & CN 9461 leavin the yard w/ todays L529
saw a set of 2 SOO boxcars
CN 2568 w/ todays A413
on my way to neenah i happen to see a train goin down the tracks. it had intermodal boxes & some freight cars. i didnt see it but it was Q118. this train tends to carry intermodal cars alot.
Yeas I agree. The zebra strip scheme wasn't the best in the world. Also, Brent did you notice that you got right there is a SOO Color Mark Boxcar! You can still see the color mark on the boxcar too! Wow, I'm not sure if any of my SOO boxcars are the color mark because there too rusted and or have too much graffiti

Those MRL locomotives were probably the ones I heard about on heading down the BNSF around through La Crosse. 12 unit consist for them, the 8 MRLs, two TFM units, and two BNSF leaders. Would have been the sight to see, though I've yet to see any pictures.
While I think the MRL SD70ACes are okay, I think I prefer the SD45s most days. Three of the MRL's 4 F45s were former WSOR units too, so I always kind of liked those, but they've been pushed out by the ACes as well.

Excuse the double post, I but come bearing good news.
Word on the railfan grapevine is that that the Illinois Railway Museum is going to get a WC SD45, WC 7525. That was the last SD45 operating, and is in Operation Lifesaver paint as well.
IRM is also supposed to get the CNW GP7 4160, "The engine that time forgot." It's been in Janesville since the CNW merger in a deadline, fully in CNW paint. Needs a lot of TLC and is missing quite a few parts, but it's going to go to the WSOR at Horicon for some work (don't know if that means getting it operating again, or if it's just for paint, or what) At least It's finally going to somewhere a little better, though IRM is saying they're going to repaint it for the CRI&P
Good news for Wisconsin Railfans!
That's what was posted to the IRM list apparently, though I was forwarded it second hand, so take it for what it's worth. I'd certainly go down to see the pair at some point. My guess is the CN will strip the WC unit before donating it though (as Max and James can attest they did with the one they donated to the Duluth Museum).
If I'm not mistaken, I think the CNW GP7 that IRM has already was the first GP7 built by EMD, or at least the first production engine.

I too would love to see it repainted for the Rock Island. They really dont have anything saved as far as I know, and It would be great to get one back and with the great crew at IRM, it would look stunning. Great shots Noah, love the going away shot at Portage!

Alec, there are two E9s in Rocket paint preserved in Baldwin City, Kansas, but the Iowa Northern may be buying them in the future, at least that is what I have heard. I'd like to see one in Illinois where it belongs, and it sounds like it finally might happen. About the 7525, CN may strip it of parts (hope they don't becuase I really want to see it run), but thats not going to stop me from taking photos of it! Like I said before, I'll be up there in a second (ok, maybe 1/2 hours literally, lol) getting photos of that. I may head to Homewood soon and get some roster shots of it while it is still there. The numberboards are still on it surprizingly, and the paint looks about perfect. Probably won't be this weekend after the long trip today, we were well over an hour late on 2816 today thanks to us having to hold for the Amtrak Empire Builder and a freight just south of Gurnee (Six Flags). Noah, I really like all the shots of the 2816. Here are my shots today of the 2816. More to come soon!

After our arrival in Sturtevant, 2816 sits on the wye getting serviced, here are two shots of that.
Knowing the Hiawatha was due, and that they use NPCUs regularly, I decided to walk over to the old Milwaukee Road depot near the wye. To my surprize, a Phase III NPCU was leading! These seem to be getting repainted into new colors quickly, so catch these while you can!
On our way back to Franklin Park, we head around a curve just south of Deval Interlocking (UP/CP/WC cross there on a triangle of diamonds), heading through a corssing. The bridge in the background is I-294. This line is actually a joint UP/CP line, but UP maintains and operates it to A-20 interlocking which is maybe 10-15 miles north of Des Plaines.
Back at Franklin Park, 2816 gets ready for its second assignment, the dedication of the IHB Grand Avenue underpass just to the west of B12.
On to the Grand Avenue dedication ceramony, This celebration was done off of the golden spike celebration, as crews pulled 2816 and IHB GP40-2 4011 within feet of each other and parked them nose to nose on the bridge. Quite a sight. The celebration can be seen below the bridge. These aren't the greatest shot, but I've never seen anything like this before and I don't know if I ever will again.
