  • Well, I'm leaving early in the morning for a three day trip to the Twin Ports on a DMIR hunt with a good buddy. He's been up to the iron range many times over the last thirty or so years, so I figure he'll make a good tour guide.

I get back late Tuesday, so hopefully I'll be in Wednesday with DMIR photos....

    Noah

  • Your planning on capturing the last few times of true DMIR too huh? Im headed that way If my mom ever finds a day that works (we originally planned to head up on Spring Break!)

  • I will expect that treatment when I'm there this summer! (Or at least get shown around 7495 the way Max did when he was there!)

Well, same amount of nothing going on here as usual, and that's why I've become nocturnal. I sleep through the hottest part of the day and am awake when it's nice, cool, and when there are no parents to bug me! Tongue [:P] (I'm also asleep during the "High Sun" hours..)

  • I haven't talked to CMSTPP in days! How you doing?
    Alex Czajkowski
  • I have been doing quite fine actually. I just learned that Walthers is releasing the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha. This was only sent to dealers and they have not yet gone ahead and put it up on there site. At the Lake Superior railroad museum, there are posters already up and around featuring the new Passenger train. The one thing I want most is there Milwaukee Road Depot they made for there 75th anniversary. It's huge and I like it.Big Smile [:D]

Outside of that I have been working on a locomotive. A GP30C. These were bought by SOO Line and then later handed over to the Twin Cities & Western railroad. They are an unsual loco because they are powered with a Catepillar engine.

A couple of picsa of the close to finish model. I kitbashed it, painted it, and decaled it myself. See what you guys think.

The Dynamic brake grid is actually just the grill itself. The exhaust stack is now ment for a catepillar engine, and the middle fan in the back had to be removed. This used to be a Pennsy GP35, but is now TC&W GP30C #4302. There are still a couple of decals missing and a few pieces missing but will be placed on soon.Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW: How are you guys doingQuestion [?]

    Happy railroadingLaugh [(-D]

  • James, nice work. That thing looks awsome! You've gotten more progress done on Kitbashing that loco than what I've done super detailing mine! That looks really good.
  • finished an acurail kit yesterday, that was a pain, gtw bi lvl auto rack, the thing wont even go around 22" radi curves!

the gtw in that photo looks like the one in my yard. its only duty is to switch the two paper plants in town.

i was just thinking the other day what would a gtw paint job look like on a dash 9?

BTW: What is your favorite video game, pc and system?

    mine: PC: World of Warcraft

      system: Guitar Hero

    The Missabe Road: Safety First

  • Well, I made it back today, and had one hell of a great time. Like Alec said, we were out to catch the DMIR at it's finest, incase it isn't around much longer. And boy did we ever! We basically spent two days, a half day on the Two Harbors sub, and a day and an evening up near Virginia on the Range. It was absolutely fantastic. Caught lots of pure Missabe sets still running around, the 416, the pumpkin, three of the four SDMs, lots of tunnel motors, a 9000' CN run through train, and more. Pictures will come sometime in the next few days, but I've got to sit down and pick out the best of over 300 photos first...

James, didn't think about emailing anybody really, sorry. I'll remember that for next time though. My friend's been up to the range a number of times, plus we've got (well, he's got), a really, really good guide to the Missiabe put together by Andy Nelson (don't know if you'd know the name or not, but he's written a couple of articles on the Missabe). Andy used to live in the area and had worked the Missabe over completely in the 90s. His guide was basically a bunch of maps of the entire Missabe showing every little road, and with spots that were good marked on it. Gave us an idea of where to go for photos once we heard trains moving on the scanner. Between that and a couple other guides, we managed to find some pretty good spots anyway. And the weather cooperated pretty well. About the only skunk of the trip was that the 1300 PRS in Duluth didn't have any empties to bring up from the docks, just loads to shove out onto the dock, so no Spirit Mountain shot. He even had a matched set of three DMIR SD38s, but no train...Sad [:(] Ah well, I guess that's something for next time...

Like I said, photos to follow in the next few days (or weeks)...

    Noah

EDIT: James, I forgot, I really like that TCW unit too. That's pretty dog gone nice looking. You did a really nice job on the painting and decaling, it looks pretty much like factory paint in the pictures at least...

  • My favorite game is Rainbow Six Vegas for PS3.
