  • Okay guys I need your help.

I tried to put this into railpictures but they keep rejecting it for blurriness. I have tried to sharpen it up but it doesn't seem to be any better for them. What can I do? Maybe one of you can take it and get it less blurry and then explain to me what needs to be done. Thanks!

  • To me the photo looks fine.(But those are my eyes. I think ever photo that isn't mine is good) But the only thing I see are the head lights and ditch lights on the lead loco. To me(my eyes are probably fooling me)they look kinda oblong.(Probably from the light) But I don' know how you would fix that.
  • Doesn't look like a reject to me, but I think you should submit it in a larger size  (Personal preference, I take all my photos to the 1024 limit)

Today I had my final diploma exam of all time (FINALLY! I've been done school itself for like a month!) and I'm pretty psyched. But...now that high school is over, I have to stop slacking. Sad [:(]

After my exam, went to Heritage Park to get some train action. Nice weather, but due to a labour shortage the main food place was closed, two smaller places were closed, and one had run out of  anything filling, leaving me with only one place to go - With a lineup as big as all outdoors.  So after taking my shots, I went home for lunch.

Man, I must be the only person of all time to get five photos of the same train at the same time at the same place on! XD

  • James, I took the photo into photoshop, but the only thing I can do to it is oversharpen it. It doesn't look that bad to me, but I think WCfan is right that they are looking at the headlight. The foreground is blurry too, but that's a natural thing when the aperture is low.  Not quite sure why, as otherwise the photo is pretty crisp and sharp already.

Like Matt said, do you have a larger size of this photo? Railpictures likes stuff 1024 pixels wide, and I could work with a file of that size easier as well. The one you posted is only 800 pixels wide.

I wouldn't say they're "being mean" about your photo, but I'd say they're being railpictures.net. That's the way they work, if it's not pretty darn close to perfect in their eyes they won't accept it. Why else would they be nicknamed railpicky.net. That's also part of why I don't upload much there anymore, I decided it wasn't worth the worry all the time about "is this photo good enough for railpictures?" like I used to.  Afterall, lots of shots that one finds in magazines like Trains and Railfan and Railroad would probably be rejected by the people at railpictures for one reason or another, so it's not like railpictures has the final say in what's good and what's not good in a photo. They just have standards for what they want for their site. I just take what I like and only submit a select few photos once and a while anymore. And that's also why I have ambitions of starting my own site, where I can be the screener of my own photos...

  • Guys, trains mag is asking railfans under 30 to write to the editer about how they got into railfanning, see page 4 of the August, Trains Magizine

  • I haven't gotten it yet.  Sad [:(]

The disadvantages of living where I do....

Of course, the advantages are that I hardly ever worry about getting it onto railpics, I always worry about how it'll turn out, period.  Of course, one botche photograph is going to ding my mood points for the day, but it's not really that important - Especially considering I can always reshoot, I think trains will stay the same for 10-20 years! (Although I'm not going to be especially happy about that..)

Yesterday when submitting, I din't think a single shot would make it in.

They ALL made it in! Every single angle I took (And believe me, I liked all of the angles I took!) made it in! Of course, since I don't really care about railpictures anymore, it didn't really lift my mood.

But if this keeps up, I'll have a hundred on by the time I go on vacation. o.O

(I need a new memory card, this one's not gonna stand up to a vacation longer than a week!)

  • Well heck. I dont know bout y'all but I had a darn good day today. (I hate usin G rated language.) First off I didn't have to go to work today. So I figured, what better way to enjoy my first day off from work over the summer than to spend the day watchin the only sport that I love............NASCAR! Dale Jr qualified (in the no. 8 ironically) qualified for Sunday's race in the 8th starting position. After that, a buddy went and got some fireworks (the goodCensored [censored] ). To top off the day I finally broke down and cleaned my Mossberg. Man that was a heck of a JOB! I aint cleaned it in a while and been shootin it alot. Not a very good combination. Usually takes me only 5-10 minutes, but with all the gunk in the mechanism, it took me 20 gotdang minutes to get the thing cleaned. Then I had to spend another 5 solid minutes gettin the gunk, that came off the gun, off my hands! Oh well. At least I got it out of  the way (FINALLY).

  • Why of course you expect pictures. Including one from railpictures.net

    http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=191771

This is my first photo!!!!!! I never expected this one to make it, but it did.

Also, here are a few more I took this afternoon.

Here's a crew member who looks like he's had enough of the railroad. These three SD38-2s roun around there ore train to push the cars on to the docks.

Another shot of the train climbing the hill running around its train.

A good veiw of Duluth and the Ore docks in Duluth. See the harbor in the background?

And another nice shot of the train and the Ore boat Thompson just above the train.

    I will have more later.
