Yep, I do have WN stuff Atmo. Like Alec said, I custom painted and detailed them:

The GP15-1s are pretty much just the stock Walthers locomotives (no shell modifications), but then I detailed the heck out of them with as many parts as I could while still being able to handle the locomotive without breaking something. I airbrushed the green and some of the black, but the rest was all decals. The decals were avalible from Scale Rail Graphics, but since they are now out of business (or at least that's what their website says) finding the sets might be hard. That's the main reason I did the units, because I liked the look of the WN stuff and then convienently SRG came out with decals.

They were my first major locomotive painting and detailing project, but they've inspired me to do more. That's why I'd like to find a pair of SD40-2s for ICE units...

Amazing, I am starting my first freelance RR for my small layout, it will be the Bear Creek & Eastern. The sceme is really close to yours, it's still in my head i have yet to put it down on the loco. Green and White, with black letters probably. I am painting a F-M H16-44. Mike

  • man looking at those GP15s really makes me wish WN was bigger and had more interesting power....like something with 6 axles.

    SD60 in WN paint....ohhhh manCool [8D]

  • You could freelance it and say they did.......hint....hint.....Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]
  • Thanks Atmo. I'm pretty happy with how my model versions of the GP15s turned out. I always kind of thought a WN SD40-2 would be neat, though not that the real railroad needs such a thing. Never thought about an SD60, but I bet that would be pretty neat too....

I saw shots of the IC unit up on the Missabe, pretty interesting consist. A BLE SD40-3, IC 6006, and SDM. I really wish I lived closer to the Missabe....

Had a chance to get out after the CP Holiday train last night, and ran into Robby in the process. Hopefully I'll get around to editing my photos soon, but if they look as good as they did in the camera I'll be happy.

  • indeed, noah. WN needs more track....but they have nowhere to expand to. there inlies the problem. unless they had the millions of dollars needed to lay track back up through Gordon.

though SD60s look good in any paint. i also wondered how they'd look in CN or CP paint. but the repainted IC SD70 and the red SOO SD60s gave me a good idea.  too bad CN never bought SD60s.

well thanks to my sister having a concert tonight, my mom having a class, and both my parents forbidding me to drive on icy country roads at night, i shall miss the holiday train yet again!

  • I'm back! As always, the Dells trip was a absolute success! I even ran into the UP United Way engine on the way up. I saw it sitting under the I-88 overpass near Rochelle so I went over to the railroad park and caught it. The big railfanning didn't begin until I went up to Portage to see the CP Holiday Train yesterday. After seeing it in Portage, I headed back to the Dells to get ready for the shots there. I ran into Noah by the Wisconsin River Bridge. Unfortunatly, the train stopped right where some light poles were blocking it, but across the street, there was a neat shot with some Christmas decorations on a building. Then after getting some shots there, it was back over to the bridge to get ready for some shots. The train didn't stop on the bridge this year, but I got some shots anyway. The train came out blurry but I think the shot looks neat with the lights blurring across the bridge. That wasn't all, however, today I went back over to the bridge and shot a freight on each side of the bridge. Photos coming soon!

  • Can't wait to see the photos Robby and Noah.

Not much from me. But I have been doing some research on this on Particular locomotive, WC SD45 7528.

What first interested me about this unit was when I saw  that she had hit a gravel truck in the Chicago Area. Anyway I later found out it had Renumbered to WC 7528 and hade also gotten a UP nose. Some more info I have gathured is that she was Deliver to BN in November of 1971, and later got retired in Novemember of 1985. So that means she sat in the dead line for atleast 2 years. Untill WC bought her. I later found out that she had gotten an upgraded some where along the line and got renumbered to 6528, then finally upgraded again to 7528. But through the years she also stayed in the old V stripe untill she got retired in the Summer of 2006. I'll still be researching this unit as she had a Pretty neat history.

EDIT: Now this is interesting. 7638, actually came from Soo Line. Soo got it from BN and it later wound up on the WC.

  • Hey ya'll how is it going. I have been working on my 4x8 (with 2x4 staging) alot, i have half the yard wired still a long ways to go. I will get pics up ASAP. I'm on a roll I got my second pic on Railpictures.net http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=215061 . Well thats all for now, Later, Mike

  • Got my photos edited from yesterday:

The Holiday train overnighted at Portage the night before, which meant that the train would have to shove out of town before making it's "Big entrance" at the scheduled time. They also stopped and filled the passenger cars with water, which provided a photo opportunity of the passenger cars before the sun went down:

After his arrival, the photo line formed. I tried a number of different angles, but this one came out the best:

A friend of mine (who used to be a newspaper photographer) was also around, and he had an interesting filter he let me try out. It's called a cross hatch filter, and it takes any point of light and makes it "star" out. The results came out okay I think, or at least it's kind of an interesting effect:

Power for the coal train to a plant near Portage usually lays over in the yard while the train is unloaded. Since we were in where the general public usually isn't allowed in the yard, I also grabbed a quick shot of a BNSF ES44DC idling under a nearby light:

Next I headed up to Wisconsin Dells. Like Robby Said, he wasn't in the greatest place for pictures, but these are the best of the bunch:

The "Golden Streak" Departs the Dells.

Not a bad day all in all. I was much happier with my results compared to the last couple of years.

    Enjoy!

    Noah

  • Sweet pix Noah!Thumbs Up [tup]

Don't feel bad Atmo, I can't even drive yet! Whistling [:-^]

  • i see. well i dont have much freedom as i cant pay for gas. at least not yet.

love the holiday train shots! maybe i'll actually get to see the train next year! >_<

well it looks like UP 9087 and UP 9750 are still running the ABEBE. thankfully that train isnt through Altoona.

i wish i had something to report....

  • Noah, good to see your shots turned out nicely, here are my photos of it.

The Holiday Train backs out of Portage Yard.

CP GP38-2 3015 and the Holiday Train sit in Portage Yard.

Here is the other end of the CP GP38-2.

BNSF power lays over in the yard.

Now in Wisconsin Dells, the CP Holiday Train sits on the overpass. Those Christmas lights to the right were in quite a convienent place for photos.

Another shot of the same scene from across the street.

Yet another shot, this one might look quite similar to Noah's shot, but that is because it is the exact same angle!

Here is a blur shot of the train departing, from the other side of the bridge from Noah's blur shot.

The fun wasn't over with the holiday train, the next day, a CP eastbound with two SD40-2s cross the bridge.

Back on the other side of the bridge, a westbound CP train crosses the bridge.

Noah, the Iowa Interstate engines I have are both custom painted, a GP7 and a GP10. The GP10 also had some modifications done to it to make it look more like a GP10, as it was originally a walthers GP9.
