Last time i rode a train was this April when Alaska Railroad had an open house.
The good news- it was free. The bad news- we didn't even go that far. But it works for me.

Last ride was a month ago when I was a brakeman at my employeer's small railyard.We spent a hour sorting out bad covered hoppers using a 35 ton GE.It can move 6 loads or 27 empties.

About two weeks ago my wife & I, as part of a tour took an overnight train from near Fatima, Portugal thru Spain to Hedenye, France. Hedenye is just over border in France near the coast.Trip time about 12 hours. Had a nice double compartment with berths one above the other. Guess who got the top bunk? Spain and Portugal are broad gauge 5 feet so no trains run thru between Spain/Portugal and other European countries. At times we hit 100+ MPH. Very clean. Super food in diner and nice club car. And guess what?? It ran on time!!
It's a shame we have to go to Europe to ride fast, clean, and frequent trains. Later on this trip we used a French high speed TGV train. On the track dedicated for this service we hit 180+ MPG, smooth as silk.

All that said, it was great to return to good ole USA, Next week is a trip Philadelphia to Washington and return next day on NE Corridor. Got a super RT Fare of $76 including senior diecount; still can't believe it!

A day without trains is wasted!

last one I took was introducing my girlfriend to rail travel on Via's The Ocean out to Gaspe and back from Montreal. Couldn't have been more please in every aspect of the trip, VIa is first class.

My last train ride was on the Metra line from Chicago, IL to Harvard, IL, I sat in a club car and had a beer or two and then drove from Harvard to my home in Janesville , WI
and I did that daily for six months
My Last Train Trip was in 1964 from Los Angeles, CA to Cleveland, OH riding the ATSF to Chicago and NYC to Cleveland. We were moving and the transfer in chicago was a nightmare. The high point of the trip was a stop in Flagstaff, AZ where my son stepped in snow for the first time

My last train ride was a little over a year ago, Kansas City to Kirkwood, Mo., on Amtrak's "St. Louis Mule". Trip was uneventful and late. Lots of trains to see east of Jefferson City. P42 locomotive handled the train quite well. High point was running along the Missouri River east of Jefferson City at 70 mph and watching two guys on a jet ski on the river keep up with us.....

My last train ride was in Branson Missouri on the Branson Senic Railroad. The good thing about the Branson Senic is it is a long ride. 40 miles. A nice alternative from the usual 3 miles out of town 3 miles back into town.

TOOK UP FROM ROSEVILLE CA THRU RENO NV TO S.L.C. UTAH ALL THE WAY TO DENVER CO THEN TOOK BNSF SOUTH TO FT WORTH TX UP EAST TO TEXARKANA THEN UP WEST TO TYLER TX HOME

Last month a friend of mine and I went from Hoboken N.J. to Port Jervis N.Y. on a scenic ride. Got stuck 3/4 of the way there because of engine problems. (GP40?) Anyway we sat in the woods for almost 2 hours till another engine came down and hooked up to pull us into Port Jervis. Traveled over the Moodna viaduct and the scenery was the best. Enjoyed the trip even with the delay.

Last train trip I took was aboard Amtrak's CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR, round-trip, Chicago to Oakland, CA. I've taken the CZ before and was foolish enough to not get sleeping car accommodations--big mistake. On that trip, I had the misfortunate of sitting behind two foul-mouthed young women whose every sentence seemed to be punctuated by the word f--- with greater frequency than I care to recall. Worse two day journey of my life. On my most recent trek, I reserved a bedroom--what a difference that made. I know I'm biased being a fan of Amtrak...but I sure hope it continues to receive necessary funding so those gleaming Superliner cars on long distance routes and their motive power will continue to delight anyone whom appreciates the sight of a passenger train as it glides through small towns, across the prairies, through majestic scenery and, finally, arriving at it's destination. I couldn't have asked for a better mode of travel, and the crew was friendly and courteous.

....We spent 8 years wintering in Florida and a few years ago we jumped on Amtrak at Deland and rode down to Orlando and we had a layover at Winter Park where we could visit for a few hours and get back on the north bound train and back to Deland that evening. A pleasant ride...and had some pretty good speed at several places.

August 23rth of 2002 My wife & I took the Cardinal to Chicago from Cincinnati Union Terminal to Chicago. There we took the Zephyr to Emmeyville,Calif. From there we took the Coast Starlight to Seattle Wa. Then the Talgo to Vancouver,B.C., To ride theSky train.The return trip was on the Empire Builder to Chicago. The Cardinal back to Cincinnati Union Terminal. It was a great trip, my wife's first train ride.
Next time I would to take the Southwest Chief to the Grand Canyon.
Of course it was deluxe bedroom all the way.
