Chinese Steam ?

  • It's possible that a tourist line could buy one. There is a Chinese steam engine that runs excursions in Boone, Iowa on a tourist line.

  • The 2 Chinese Steam Engines are sitting at the Intermodal Yard in Newton, Iowa.  They are located on the Northeast side of the yard behind a maintenance shed.  They need a lot of work, including new glass in the cabs
  • I can't believe they would just let them sit out in the open and be vandalized ? New glass in the cabs, need alot of work...... They haven't been sitting for that long ?
  • Well, that's where they are, and the Iowa Interstate Railroad workers told us that they needed to have all the glass replaced in the cabs, because it didn't meet current standards, and that they needed some other maintenance work done on them before they were moved anywhere.

They haven't been vandalized, as at night they are behind the locked gates at the Intermodal Yard.

  • Well that makes me feel better i was hoping they weren't vandalized that would be a shame. any mention if they will be out and about......
  • There is another of the Chinese steamers.  It is owned/operated by the Boone & Senic Valley RR (Boone, Iowa).  Last year during the season they ran their excursions with diesel on weekdays and the steamer on weekends.

  • Well anything new going on with these engines, was the glass replaced. Have they been fired up, buried in snow. Shipped to an undisclosed place on the moon. I just have a hard time thinking that these wonderful engines are just sitting .
  • The way to get people to buy them would be to run them again and show what they can do. Leaving them sitting in an intermodal yard really isn't the way to impress buyers.

  • Still no updates ? Geez I'm starting to loose confidence in the good old USA to use these lovely engines....

  • There is now a third QJ coming to the U.S. It will be rebuilt by RDC like the other two and sent to RJ Corman. I don't know why they are buying a QJ.

  • Ok why would they bring a third engine to the U.S.A. and not just buy one thats already here ? This just dosen't make much sense to me ? This might seem like a stupid question but who or what is RJ Corman ?
  • RJ Corman is a railway that runs in the East. It runs in parts of Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsyvania. I don't know why they aren't just buying 6988 or 7081, but it is pretty much confirmed from what I hear that they are going to be shipped over from China. Hey, I'm not complaning, the more the better!

  • Ok folks this thread has been cold far too long, no updates ? I would think this would be much watched ? Steam brought to the good old U.S.A. I would think you guys close to this story would be crowing about it, or hanging around the 2 stored engines hoping for a glance ?
  • Ever sice they ran the photo charters on BICB and CBBI, there really hasn't been anything going on worth posting. They have been sitting at Newton doing nothing. If something happens I'm sure someone will post it, possibly myself. Until then, there really isn't anything scheduled to go on with them.
