WC's SD45 fleet sent to the scrapper

  •  i guess i can answer my own question,

WC 7514 was the last one in service & it was being taken down to homewood or one of them today so all the SD 45's are gone.

  • the last SD45's i saw were

    7515 at Stevens Point Dec 3rd 2006

    7501 at Stevens Point Dec 3rd 2006

    7531 at Stevens Point Jan 22 2007

i always liked trains since i was 4 but i never got much detail into them if we got stopped at a crossing i would always be excited & mainly it would be on the WC in wisconsin. see but back then i never knew i was gonna get much into railroading.   i  just got into taking pictures & the searching for SD 45s just a few months ago & that not many were left. i knew that the wc went through my town but just 3 years ago i just found out by looking up wc that CN bought them.

    other WC locomotives i saw

WC 2500 which is currently at stevens point

WC 3002 currently at stevens point

    WC 6005 Unknown

WC 1563 currently at fond du lac

    WC 2003 currently at fondy

    WC 2001 currently at waukesha

any one got a up to the minute update on WC sd 45s or have they all been sent to homewood?i wish one would get donated to the national rr museum in green bay along w/ WC 715.

i hope CN dont get rid of the  SD40-2, SW1500, Geeps & the rest of the WC fleet. then history will be destroyed. i hope that their will be some WC left by the time i can work for CN which i plan on doing. im not a big fan of CN locomotives. I like IC Locomotives too.  im trying to think what it would be like if WC was never bought by CN. some thoughts all the SD 45s would still be in service, some SW 1500 & 1200 would be in service, as well as the SDL 39's. i dont know abt the F45 & FP 45's have they been retired or not? if not i would like to see one.

whats your thoguth on my question what would it be like if WC was never bought?

  • I admit, yes, UP is number 1 is railfan pleasing activities.

  • Well, I'm just guessing here, but if I had a corperation approaching their susquentennial and still going strong, I'd probably flaunt around some, too.

  •  All that has virtually nothing to do with the public, very little to do with railfans, and a whole lot to do with shippers, stockholders, and politicians.SoapBox [soapbox]My 2 cents [2c]

Really though, in all seriousness.  UP totes their special stuff around to impress people.  UP took their steamers to "Railfair 99" in Sacramento.  Who comes to Railfair?  Railfans.  If you add 1 and 1 you get 2.  If you add a railroad oriented event and a Class 1's steam locomotives, you get railfans.  They get PR from the general public, sure.  But, the caravans pacing the locomotives aren't the general public for the most part.  If it is, they got stuck in the line of traffic on the way out of the town the service stop was in.

Max, what are you trying to say? I think that's exactly the point. What....uh...other Max was saying was that CN is one of the few roads that doesn't even do anything to help its PR out.

CN is more of a "behind the scenes" PR railroad. They have made many gratis moves for the LSRM/NSSR they could have charged for.

    But

    They run a Santa train.

They donated two locomotives to help a region in Canada after a power outage.

They donated SOO LINE GP30 #700 to us, and may very well donate a WC SD45.

    They have had open houses.

    Run two IC E units.

    ETC.

So you see, just because you dont THINK a railroad is doing something because you dont live by it, does not mean it isnt.

  • and then i even went on to name examples. why would UP be doing the heritage fleet and running old steam? why would BNSF be asking for the help of railfans to report problems on the rails? why is NS considering bringing back a N&W steamer and a steam program? why does CP let 261 use their track?

to please railfans and get good PR as a result! that's why!

  • Maintain almost any loco they way they're maintaining their SD45s, and you get similar results...

  • Was talking to a CN engineer and he said the #7531 was puking its guts out yesterday, and that recently all the SD45's have been running like crap.

yes i know. railroads are here to move goods. but spending extra money for these few things will benefit them in other ways. the PR they get from it. and with all those derailments on the ex BC track, CN could use it

    ROTFLMAO

Railroads dont go out of their way to please railfans. Its called Public Relations. They could give a **** about us.

WOW! i MENTIONED public relations. do you know what "PR" even STANDS for? and you missed my whole point. pleasing railfans is a GOOD way to gain good PR. learn acronyms before you try to put me down....sheesh
