WC's SD45 fleet sent to the scrapper

  • i heard that all SD45s in homewood are now piles of steel. i flipped through my collection of pictures of me on 6620 and had a good cry. i really need an HO replica of it one day.

    RIP, 6620...Sad [:(]

    You make me sick.

My cousin died at age 21.

Two of my friends brothers died in their teens.

One of my friends sisters just killed herself.

Mys dads father died when my dad was 8.

And other stuff I morally can NOT say online

And you cry over a piece of steel getting scrapped....

  • excuse me but i too have lost a friend to an accident. FYI, i didnt cry out loud about 6620, but i DID when my friend died. and not just for a few minutes, but for days

to divert this topic from certain derailment, i must ask again if there are still over 10 SD45s left

  • Thats too bad they scrapped the SD45s. Good thing I got all those photos of them when I did. I believe there were 26 left last I heard, but I'm sure that has changed. I guess CN didn't get any buyers on the deadlined SD45s. Too bad only a few of the SD45s could be photographed off CN property. I'm probably going to Homewood tommorow. I'll report any SD45s I see this thread as always. So I guess now the deadlined SD45s and SD40 have pretty much been scrapped. I'll see what I can do tommorow and I'll leave a update when I get back from vacation on Friday. CN pretty much ruins everything they touch. They have gotten rid of almost everything the WC owned, and repainted a few SW1500s. They even scrapped WC 6001 without even putting it up for sale.

  • OK, I'm back from vacation, and I have the latest on the SD45s. On my trip there Wednesday, none of the SD45s were scrapped, not even the ones that were reported to be scrapped. 6621 was moved to a different deadline. On a different note, I saw OLS WC SD45 7525 5th out on a southbound manifest wating to depart Homewood.

  • oh thank god. whew. maybe 6620 will return to service. it was retired before and brought back

  • 6620, along with dozens and dozens of other SD45s are sitting at Homewood missing numberboards and other parts (most likely stolen) in the deadline, as well as SD40s, GMD1s, and other rare engines. There is even a line of various BC Rail engines (even Alcos!) deadlined also.

This is the link to see that CN has former WC SD45s listed as surplus locomotives for sale.

  • Bad news, CN is scrapping all of the deadlined SD45s. I guess none of them sold before the sale ended. I went to Homewood today and almost all of them were gone. There were several cab and radiator sections from the SD45s. There were maybe 7 or 8 left, but they will be seeing the scrapper very soon. To make news even worse, there were more SD45s in a different deadline coupled a IC GP10. The GP10 will not be scrapped, however. The city of Homewood now owns it and it will be going in at the Homewood Railroad Park, which will be opening soon. There was a additional BC Rail engine deadlined, a C36-7, along with the other BC Rail engines and DWP 5905.

These WC SD45s were essentially held for ransom before being scrapped.

  • I wish CN would just donate a SD45 to a museum, as well as DWP SD40 5905, the last DWP engine. I know they won't unless they get a bunch of money for the engines. At least that IC GP10 found a new home. I also saw WC GP38-2 2004 in almost perfect condition paint that CN hasn't ruined yet. Pretty sad sight seeing pieces of once were WC SD45s. I know that a few of the SD45s at Homewood were ones CN ran to the ground until their motors busted.
