WC's SD45 fleet sent to the scrapper

  • Many havent lately. A lot are just sitting around in the deadlines.

Today we had the 7525 leading. Got a bunch of shots, sadly it was cloudy, but when it was sunny, it wasnt lighting the locomotive well. Check the New Brighton 6 album later.

  • has 6620 been scrapped
  • it had better not have been. when did you care about that great machine anyway?

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • Max, its going to be scrapped, im almost positive. And the 6620 was one of the 98% of 66XX's that werent rebuilt with the Q Tron. So its not the best of the bunch. Plus they have already stripped the parts of most of units in the deadlines. It most likely will get the torch. Let go already. But no, it hasnt been touched since it went to the deadlines.

  • There is a Erie-Lackawana SD45 at the Museum of Transport in St. Louis.

  • Hahaha, those have already been stripped by some scavengers.

  • the first step is getting to the deadline at all. if i could, i'd go there to say goodbye and swipe something off of it. maybe the green handbrake

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • CN has put all of the SD45s sitting at Homewood up for sale. Some of these that I know of are 7500, 7481, 6620, 6621, 6602, 7584, 7518, and too many others to list. Hopefully someone is looking for SD45s, because there are a lot of them for sale. CN also put the SD40s for sale, and I didn't see WC 6001 in the deadline last time I went there. Maybe someone bought 6001.

  • Nope. The 6001 along with many DWP/GTW SD40's are being scrapped as we speak. Sad to see such neat units not even up for sale.

    > DWP: 5908,5911 both with long hoods on ground and prime movers w/
    > generators preped to be pulled these both have been stripped.

  • i need money badly. if i had my own house, i'd have put a bid on 6620 and set that beast right down in my backyard

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • Darn. Too bad. I guess thats the end of the DWP. It seems like CN wasted a lot of money that they could have got from selling them. I'm sure a shortline would've bought a SD40. As for the SD45s, last I heard none of them have ben sold. I also found that the lone DM&IR switcher is also for sale. I believe that if the SD45s aren't bought by a certain time, they will scrap them. Thats what they did in previous sales.

  • Well, im sad to even be thinking like this but. If i were CN i'd, well shoot myself, but besides that, I would keep them up for sale, as the price for steel is only going to get higher.

  • Is DWP 5905 getting scrapped also? All the SD40s were out of the deadlines last time I went to Homewood. Maybe IRM will get a SD45. Burlington-John, I have seen the EL 3607 in St. Louis. It is a very nice looking engine. I'm guessing the 7500s and 7600s have the best chance of being sold. I also heard the lone DMIR switcher is for sale also. There are 3 SD40s for sale, but they are the ones stored in Canada, not Homewood, and they are all CN original SD40s. At least that is what I heard.
