Favorite Roadnames?

  • Anybody for ICRR?
  • The New York Central. we represented all things good in the railroad business.

  • The Norfolk & Western was a extremely profitable coal hauler. It's passenger service even though small, was comfortable and the crews were very friendly. While in the Navy, I was stationed in Norfolk between 1962-1967 and rode the Powhaten Arrow to my hometown outside of Cincinnati, Ohio every weekend my ship was in port. My only regret was I never had the opportunity to ride a "J" pulled train.

  • Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe. Family worked for it and I grew up around those blue and yellow freight diesels or the warbonnet passenger consist. Never was too crazy with the merger with the B.N. and their pumpkin colors and now the heritage colors(?). Fortunately there are still a few red and silver warbonnets still floating around to view for a while. As far as I'm concerned, BNSF is just another name for Santa Fe

Thanks for including Rio Grande in the finalist for favorite roadnames.... but, don't you think it would be better to have a more regional poll? I also like SP, CB&Q, WP, NP, GN, ATSF and virtually any "western US" road... except the UP (those devouring demons!)

Strangely enough whilst UP has 3 votes, no-one wants to admit it!

Me, I like the Santa Fe first followed very closely by the Rio Grande.
