Ditto! But the SD80MAC in NS livery is awfully pretty. I'm going to put one on layway (of course, it'll have to be HO scale, made by Kato.)...

  • F59PHI; The 12-cylinder 710 sounds very nice, "digging in" and getting a train on the move!

    Some half-decent paint schemes, too!

  • I voted for the EMD SD90's because they give a smoother, tighter ride. However, on a big grainer or coal for tractive effort I like the GE AC's, but I don't like how they want to hop when you start on a grade or roll over the greasers.
BUT AS HOT AS IT HAS BEEN IN THE WEST THIS SUMMER, ANYTHING WITH AIR CONDITIONING IS MY FAVORITE!!!

  • I like SD70MACs. I don't really have a reason, I guess I just see more SD70s than any other kind. Alaska Railroad has 16 SD70MACs, plus 7 new ones that ARR will get in 2004.

  • Since I live in Erie County, home to GE, I've got to go with the 9-44 love those wings.

  • I have to agree with vwood.....The GE's rattle too much and I have been stranded many times with them.... although the sd40-2's are a work horse. I really like the 80/90mac-H's.....I read a few years back that , if I remember right, a 6000 hp EMD has 754 cubic inches per cylinder. Their distintive rumble is impressive.

I voted for the GE C44-9CW - I like the trucks and angular design of the nose.
But to be honest today's loco designs don't have the style of first generation diesels,
    e.g. Alco PA & FA, EMD F-series.
