Favorite modern locomotive

  • Hardly modern, but my favorite is actually the SD40T-2.

Of the units listed, I had to go with the SD60. I prefer EMD over GE, and like the look of the older style SD's.

  • SD40-2.
Comfortable, dependable, responsive; and a nice front porch for relaxing while waiting for a meet.

  • The EMD Diesel-Electric Locomotives that some people have mentioned Canadian National and Santa Fe operating is the SD75I.

An SD75I is an interesting Locomotive.

It is modern, but it could have the controls much like the older GP9.

The grills allow a veiw of the fans inside in the right light.

  • I could have voted for all of the above but since I live a block from the CP mailine hearing the sound of a AC4400 as they pull the loaded coal and sulfur trains, I hear that deep powerful sound.

  • SD60 by far. It is the only locomotive in that pile that doesn't bounce like some cars shocks have given out. (sorry for those that like the newer engines) Atleast not as badly.

  • There is nothing like the "chug" of a Dash 9!
