Favorite modern locomotive

  • My favorite modern locomotive is a Spartan cabbed GP60 wearing fresh UP paint. Living in the area of the ex-SP Phoenix Line, I get to see these units performing local duty on a daily basis. Another one I see doing local service are the SD70Ms. All good locos. EMD rules!

  • I love BNSF SD70 Macs. These I think are one of the nicest looking locos out there right now. Although a pair of UP 70s sporting "Old Glory" on the side sure looks nice too.

    sorry to disapoint you, but DM3 with all its 3 units has only about 95 000 lbs continuous tractive effort. 210 000 lbs is the number for the starting tractive effort.

    In motion, a DM3 is only a little better than a sd40-2 at pulling, exept that it would go faster (but a DM3 can't go faster than say 35 mph, so I guess that advantage is gone too)
