milw diesel whereabouts

  • I would do that in a heart beat.
If I were to have one locomotive in the world it would be the SDL39.
If I had the money I would indeed go down to Chile and buy one of those locomotives back.

  • Since they are in relatively good shape now, it will be a LONG time before Fepasa even retires the SDL39's or any of the other rebuilds of North American locomotives on its roster. Consider the GA8's on Antofagasta & Bolivia, they date from the 1960's and they are still in service.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
  • Give them the right price and they would start talking.[:D]

  • Sorry for my friend being so mean. The locomotives depicted in the site are called MLW ( not standing for milwaukee road) M420s. A type of Alco with a safety cab instead of the original cab of a Alco, what ever the prefrence was. The milwaukee road sign would be MILW. These Alcos were ordered with this type of cab and the milwaukee road never owned this loco.

  • Lol, yeah i'm not an American so i can understand how i mistook that. Cool, cool. The little i know of American railroads i know from Greg McDonnell's Heartland. The closest thing i've seen here are the SOO Line loco's on the CPR line here.[|)]

  • Well I'm glad we got through that. Hopefully Max ( the guy who flamed you) will settle down and actually think about what he says.
If you ever have questions come to this forum and I will run through them as best as I can.

What I understand to be the only Bi-Polar prototype in existence is at the National Museum of Transportation, a facility which is located near the intersection of I-44 and I-270 near to southwest corner of metropolitan Saint Louis. As of maybe 3-years ago the unit was painted orange and maroon and looked pretty nice, but the pantographs were missing. Unfortunately it's on display outside and is jammed between other railroad equipment. Photography of this unit requires a wide-angle lens.
  • Well I'm glad to know that the Bipolar is in Saint Louis. Atleast I can come and look at the unit and get all the pictures of it.
One question? Do they allow people to go inside or is it a piece no one can enter?
    Thanks for the info.

  • I volunteered at that museum in the late 90's while living in ST.louis. At that time only one side had been repainted, they said they did not have the money to complete the project. They are very friendly people at that museum, and I'm sure if you contacted them ahead of time, they would arrange for you to look inside. Now, If we could just get some 3000 volt trolley and get the thing running......

James, if I recall correctly, I was at your house when I read it and you told me to say that....

I thought he was being a smart-***, but since that is not the case, I apologize.
