Rochelle Webcam Update

  • Hey all we all love the BNSF/UP/Trains.Com Rochelle Webcam.Like it a whole lot but how many of you Agree/Dissagree that Trains.Com should Upadate the Rochelle Webcam. I thnk it needs an Approvement such as Lower (FPS) Frames Per seconed,A bigger Picture where we can see it better and clearer and also for all of us who have Dial-Up Modems too. And for High Speed Modems aswell where we can select a Menu for Dial-Up Users for a Lower Frame Rate Per Seconded like starting at 2.5 to 1.5 and for High Speed Users liek 3.5 5.5.No I'm not saying the Rochelle Cam is not good its the best I have seen,but I think its time for an Update.What would really be cool is also a Live Rail Stream where we can hear and watch the trains at the same time using either Real One Player,Win Amp,Windows Media Player.Hope you guys dont get mad at me here its just and Idea.[8D]

  • i think that they could do something else with the webcam - i think they should put one on the other side to see the other side behind us

  • I think a bigger picture would be nice but not a moveable camera, there are to many people who like to point them to the ground or some stupid angle. Sound would be nice also

  • It would be a great idea. Especially if it were streaming. Or, if it were to take a movie sample like on www.trainorders.com . That would be awsome. Was controlling the camera an origional feature on the camera?

    Here are some things to keep in mind with the Trains.com Rochelle web cam:
    A) The City of Rochelle serves the web cam, so we cannot provide a picture updated more frequently than every 3 seconds without using more of their bandwidth
    B) As far as sound goes, see point A. Sound equals more bandwidth.
    C) As far as controllable cams, I personally think they're too risky. If you get someone at the controls who either doesn't know what they're doing or has a slow connection that doesn't respond quickly, you end up looking at everything but the train that just went by.

    I fixed a problem like this before on another siter (now gone).

    What you shouldis connect the camera to the server that the city serves, and only have one connection going from that to a server in a server farm, which then sends it out to viewers, less bandwith for your city, so you could add radio and better quality.

    Diagram:

    Webcam--->
    Server at location--->
    )))INTERNET)))--->
    Server at a server- farm (no bandwith limits)----> )))INTERNET)))--->Viewer
    \-------->Viewer
    \---------->Viewer

    and then as man viewers as wanted. Belive me, it works, and well too.

  • I know that it would be very nice if the web cam at Rochelle was faster, but we all gotta remember this quote, "Life ain't a bowl of cherries." I also thank the people who keep the web cam going. Keep up the good work!
