  • the Picture for the web cam needs to be bigger, plus with audio background so u can listen for a train.[8D]

  • Leave the camera AS it is, but don't leave it WHERE it is. On the west side of the double-diamond we'd be able to see signal aspects.

  • Let's all keep in mind that whatever we think, IT"S FREE FOLKS, so let's not look a gift horse in the mouth.

    eolafan, well put, sometimes I think people forget just how much it costs to provide bandwidth for things like this, I know as we own an ISP here and I would be hard pressed to donate space to something like this, exspecially when the crowd starts picking apart such a great and FREE resource.

  • i think being able to see the signal aspects would greatly enhance the viewing pleasure of the rochelle diamonds, the signal aspects are as important to me as the approaching train. i concur w/ the idea that the cam should be fixed, but the notion of having two cameras sounds interesting. i live near berea so i go & watch csx & norfolk go through...it's a high volume area....it's not so enjoyable during ohio's unpredictable winters so it's great to be able to enjoy trains from the warmth & comfort of home. has anyone ever considered a webcam in berea? we get a lot of rail traffic!!! keep up the great work TRAINS !!!![8D][8D]

  • I think it needs to be a streaming video. Not that I don't appreciate the existing equipment. A+ and thank you's to those who are responsible. But......how about a faster link......say 1 Meg or maybe 3 or 4? How about approaching the local cable company? Hey cable company......you put in the connection (for free?), Rochelle puts in the equipment (at their cost), you put in a sign that sits in front of the cam and says"..brought to rail fans by Comcast and Rochelle (or whoever owns the site) " and walla - we ALL win.
    Cable could even use the site for modem speed tests. "There you go Ma'am. Your internet connection is faster than a Pumpkin Seed ACC4000 or a "Jeep" 40-2. Advertising CAN be useful....sometimes.

  • I know that it would be very nice if the web cam at Rochelle was faster, but we all gotta remember this quote, "Life ain't a bowl of cherries." I also thank the people who keep the web cam going. Keep up the good work!

    A) The City of Rochelle serves the web cam, so we cannot provide a picture updated more frequently than every 3 seconds without using more of their bandwidth
    B) As far as sound goes, see point A. Sound equals more bandwidth.
    C) As far as controllable cams, I personally think they're too risky. If you get someone at the controls who either doesn't know what they're doing or has a slow connection that doesn't respond quickly, you end up looking at everything but the train that just went by.

    I fixed a problem like this before on another siter (now gone).

    What you shouldis connect the camera to the server that the city serves, and only have one connection going from that to a server in a server farm, which then sends it out to viewers, less bandwith for your city, so you could add radio and better quality.

    Diagram:

    Webcam--->
    Server at location--->
    )))INTERNET)))--->
    Server at a server- farm (no bandwith limits)----> )))INTERNET)))--->Viewer
    \-------->Viewer
    \---------->Viewer

    and then as man viewers as wanted. Belive me, it works, and well too.
