Rochelle Webcam Update

  • They shoudl also add a Control Feature where we can controll it with a 360 Degree Control, thanks all for your Replies and Agrees on Updating it total 89% Agree With me Thanks[:)]
  • I agree entirely that the Rochelle web-cam is great. Would I like a controlable camera like some of the others, you bet, but in the mean time I like it just the way it is. More locations would be great as well. How about BNSF Eola yard for lots and lots of trains.

  • Although the reason for having the camera on top of the pavilion is obvious, I'm wondering about the possibility of having a northward-facing camera south of the diamond, so that one has a better idea of what's going through. Ideally, it would be possible to read reporting marks and numbers off the equipment. It might be impossible to get enough distance between camera and objectives there, though.

Though webcams at Dolton and Blue Island would be nice, it would be difficult to find one location where everything, or almost everything, could be seen well.

  • I think it needs some updateing and should have a few more train watching spots like Fostoria, Ohio and other places

  • Would much rather see a second Webcam; say, Gibbon, NE, on the old Co-op roof facing west?

  • Here are some things to keep in mind with the Trains.com Rochelle web cam:
    A) The City of Rochelle serves the web cam, so we cannot provide a picture updated more frequently than every 3 seconds without using more of their bandwidth
    B) As far as sound goes, see point A. Sound equals more bandwidth.
    C) As far as controllable cams, I personally think they're too risky. If you get someone at the controls who either doesn't know what they're doing or has a slow connection that doesn't respond quickly, you end up looking at everything but the train that just went by.

  • Well that leads to....

    A & B : add a new camera supported by Trains.
C: Limit the time you can control it.

I like very much the wonderful opportunity the webcam gives to the people who lives
really far from the places they are mounted. Being at 8,000 miles from there and
the posibillity of looking at my favorite railroad is a blessing.

    Thanks and leep going
