What if there was 1 super railroad, spanning all of north America???

  • Wait, there is one. It's called the Scott Squad Railroad, and they have ruled the US for some time now...[:D]

    Oh, wait...In real life? Whoops...[:I]

    [:p]

    Scott - Dispatcher, Norfolk Southern

  • Those of you who are John Barriger fans are you aware his son had a long and distinguished career with the ATSF and resides here in CHicago? We had him speak to the Chicago chapter of the PRR historical society last year and he is an excellent speaker and a trustee of the Barriger library in St. Louis. He has access to all his fathers records and notes and is a very knowledgable individual.
  • Never knew that about his son! Too cool will have to go to that library if open to the public ( hopefully) as he was a master at getting railroads out of problems.
I loved his sense of humor. His buisness card on the Rock I believe stated JW BArriger President and senior travelling freight salesman!!
If cloning worked the way it does in movies I want to buy a railroad with him and Jams Hill as my operating people! Ill show you one railroad, it will be mine everyone else would run in fear! Oh yeah did i mention Bronsan form the Southern would be my PR guywink wink.

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

I can answer both First it would be an overregulated government railroad cause shippers would demand it.
Second I would start in the days of mergers.NYC and Pennsy? nope! NYC ties in at Chicago with one of the Hill lines, Pennsy with the Q Erie with the RI Ri goes DRGW and WP There you go true transcons from NY to the west coast. Run Mini trains from shipper to consignee daily runs like a unit train that can do three turns a day or even two or one. Who cares you will be utilizing the cars better.Add in your long haul trains and locals. Offer better service and sell the idea to the employees who are coming up with the entitlement attitude. I have spoken to some old heads who said" we never ran this shabby we took pride in our jobs" Get the workforce happy and Look out!!
Oh and JWB is a hero of mine,One of the great Railroad leaders!

    Very intersting! Coupla questions,

Since we're handing the Q off to Pennsy (good connctons for passengers-same side of Union in Chicago), which road would you use to connect NYC with the Hill lines in Minneapolis-Saint Paul? C&NW or MILW?

Would you set up PRR-CB&Q as a transcon? Who would be your merger partner west from Denver (or wherever)?

Since the poor CRI&P had pretty thin traffic, I'm curious why you'd connect it up with the Erie going east-my impression is that it wouldn't be a great traffic feeder.

    Sounds facinating!
"Look at those high cars roll-finest sight in the world."
  • There would be a big momopoly so they wouldn't allow it too many people upset.
  • I would have to say another Union Pacific Meltdown.

-We have rules and policys that have to be followed, don't ask us to break them.
-Some Railroaders are not that knowledgeable, we are trained to run it, not know if it has a 12 or 16 cylinder engine.

Hmmm, I was under the impression you had to know how much horsepower you have in a train.

And if you dont want to answer questions, I DONT REALLY CARE!!!![}:)] I dont care if your a railroader or not, I just want my question answered.
I heard that some railroaders are whiny, hmmm, you fit that bill.
And how are we asking you to break you laws??? Im so SURE you know alot about your companies meger plans, I mean, you cant even tell much horsepower your train has!!!![}:)]

  • I would call it the biggest mistake the Railroads would ever make, and.. AEDAVE if you haven't read the above message i think its time you did..
The Milwaukee Road From Miles City, Montana, to Avery, Idaho. The Mighty Milwaukee's Rocky Mountain Division. Visit: http://www.sd45.com/milwaukeeroad/index.htm
  • That would be pretty boring, but I think I could live with it if it were BNSF without that stupid swoosh logo/paint scheme. [:D]

And if you don't thinks its "swoosh" check this out.

  • It would be totally boring.Seeing nothing but dirty yellow diesels with UNION PACIFIC on the side[:(][:(!][xx(]!
Ride Amtrak. Cats Rule, Dogs Drool.
  • It would named, National Acme Amalgamated Railroad Company and the disels would all be the same model for mainline and yard service too. Plus a basic flat black scheme
with white NAARC lettering and numbers, no fancy swoosh or shield w/wings, yep easy to maintain and no more "cool" ditch lights.
