TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • Yes, was I ever so happy today. The spani***eacher was out again today, and best of all I sat next to Brianna during the entire class.

Okay, my apology goes out to everyone here. I am sorry, and I gladly accept oscaletrains apology. I will not talk about cars as much as I have been. I know I took that comment a little too seriously, and finding out that it was not even directed at me made me feel dumb.

Sorry that I caused the havoc here. Can I get another chance?

Alstom, I really like the new pic in your sig. Very nice shot.

Okay, here's another question. What does ABS stand for in railroad terms.
Will..........try not to think of this one this time.

  • Thats easy. Automatic Block Signal.
I beleive it is a trackside signal activated by a train moving over or past a detecting device.
James, I know your copying these out of Kales GCOR book....LOL

  • ATS is only really used out east or west.. most guys here dont know it.. dont worry about it.. most railroads have it out of the test (nssr included)

Thanks Colin! I liked it too. I like the Dark Future loco behind it. It was very freshly painted. And the lead unit was a "modified" scheme loco. Which is their very old scheme with new additions like a yellow nose and rear. The cloud formation and the back was a good addition (where's my editor's pic on rrpicturearchives? LOL). Plus, for once, the sun was on my side.

Well, going railfanning today. It's 45 degrees here and sunny. Any winter day that looks like this on the weekend (for once) is a day I have to go to Berea. Probably from 11:00 am- 4 pm.

Oskar- That sucks! Well, at least you've seen the Seaboard Lines loco. 4601 is not the only Seaboard painted loco: 2779 (I think) is also in Seaboard Lines paint. And I want 4617 back! You're hogging it.....LOL, I've only seen it once, and now you're keeping it down there! Is it going to come back up here soon, if you know?

    I love CSX's ES44DC's now. I've seen 9: 5201, 5211, 5214, 5237, 5251, 5263, 5279, 5286 and 5297.
    For NS's ES40DC's, I've seen: Un-numbered (Brand New), 7502 (on May 29, 2005!), 7544 and 7553. That's all.
    For NS's SD70M-2s, I saw: 2650 (twice), 2655, 2658, 2662, 2663, 2665, 2674 (twice), 2678 and 2697.

    Anyways, catch you guys later.

  • Rick- Its Seaboard System 4601 and 2667 Seaboard Lines is the old SCL (Seaboard Coast Line). 4617 is still doing MOW work here but don't know when it is going to be set into the rest of the line.

CSX 7588 and 5107 are back here on a rock train hopefully I can get some pics of the 7588.

I have seen about 12 ES44DC's including 2 that is working around the yard 5263 and 5214 but the others just come and go.

    NS SD70M-2's only 2669

    ES40DC's 7514 (July 23rd 2005) and 7525

  • Hi All

    Matthew [^]

I mailed your package last Thursday. I was gone on a trip to Missouri earlier and didn't get a chance to mail it. Items going to Canada take at least 1 and 1/2 weeks so give it a while to get there.

    G e o r g e [:D]

I am working on your package, I hope to mail it Monday. [:p] [8D] [:D]

OK guys, got to get ready to go play with the trains. [:D]

    Bye Now.

EVERYONE be careful out there. [:)]

  • Okay!! Now I'm going into depth.
    Here's the first one.
After lining a train for its reverse movement back on to the main line from a siding(Such as a passenger train at the northshore seneic, or a small freight) what should the employee or volunteer do untill the movement is complete?

Try and figure the first one.[:D]

    Here's the second one.
What is a spring switch and are they used any more?

Okay smart ones lets see you get the first one. The second one is easier and some of you may figure that one out right away.

One of the things on any movement weather it is reverse or forward is the point has to be protected usally done by the engine crew so my guess is ride on the point and protect the shove.
the second is a swich that unless gone through by a loco. or car in the opposit direction is constantlly lined for a track but cars can roll through the switch and it will relign itself. Thet are marked with an "SS" on the switch target. Yes they are still in use but i don't think they are common on the mainlines any more....... I know the CNW loved to use them. I think one of the swiches on the WGNS used to be a spring swich but don't quote me on it.[:)]

I'm sorry mr. CP conductor(will) I will fix my sig soon[bow][;)]
