  • I just got up!
Another EMD vs. GE thing, here in Calgary there is the oldest canadian built diesel, a 1950 GP7, rebuilt with a low hood. These are still around, and they're 20-30 years older than most GEs that have been retired! No shop forces made the U18s into goats, but most of CP's GP7s and 9s made it into there! Case closed. And ES44ACs sound like they are dying!

Not only that but the railroads only bought the GE's because the were cheaper than the EMD's, GE locomotives require more matiance and they look and sound like crap. They sound like a ALCO/CATIPPILER hibrid gon tarriblly wrong!!!!!!! EMD's are better products and last longer

    enough said!!!

ITWAS SUNNEY ALL DAY YESTERDAY AND I COULDN'T GO RAIL FANNING BECAUSE I WAS AT MAX'S HOUST BUILDINF HIS F[censored]MODEL RAILROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!![banghead]

yes IT'S A GREAT PIC. dOES THAT RAILROAD KNOW THAT WASING THEIR LOCOMOTIVES IS A GOOD THING? Or are the just another CSX? [;)][:)] We have to wash our loco.s every other month at the nssr
  • Chris-I agree they sound great even from about a mile away (I live close to the tracks of CSX's McCormic Sub which has gotten a couple of ES44AC's over the weeks). They don't sound like their dying. The 11 or so I have seen all sound great but thats CSX I am not sure of UP and CP ES44AC's. The CSX ones have wierd but cool horns its like a S3L and a C40-8W horn mixed or something.

C39-8's have another 5 years or so still left in them on NS many are retired (from NW).The E's none and the Conrail C39-8's none are retired.I guess NS see's something in them that is very good compared to the C30-7's they had *whew* once the ''cat fishes'' came in they went in a hurry alot got retired and scrapped then some got saved and went to a leaser (HLGX and EBBX and some others).

Jeez its cold up there if you came here you would think its hot it hasn't gotten below 25 this winter then some days it gets up to 70! in JANUARY!!! usally that happens in March or April.

  • Well, I just got home from a great dinner. Salmon, grilled veggies, and lasagna. Gonna go to sleep, so see ya.
    Colin from prr.railfan.net
  • Why?

It was a beautiful day for railfanning today, almost totally Sunny, and I never made it out of town all day. [sigh] Depresses me it does. But, I did get a little done on the module and on some homework that I have to do for Tuesday, but I think I would have prefered railfanning. I only hope you got a good day out Chris, maybe somebody in the place had a good day........

I did get a good part of my turntable painted today, so I'm one step closer to getting done with the module. I didn't quite make my goal of getting the yard office done by the end of today, but it's a good ways to that goal, and I got some other stuff done that I wasn't planning on.

Well, I'm heading out, I'm going to focus my attention back on the Superbowl. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Seattle is going to win, but I wasn't really rooting for one side a heck of a lot more than the other anyway.

  • BTW, about cold weather, tell him to suck it up. I mean that is warm compared to what I've done. I've been outside in the dark railfanning in -20 for over an hour in sandals and a t-shirt. I've been railfanning for 3 hours in -40 with a single thin jacket. It was too cold for clouds. The exhaust was visible on idling engines up to about 30 feet, and it was dry. My hands froze to the camera a couple times. Summary: Suck it up! :-P

  • Yesterday I managed to get my parents to take me down the Akron yard in 7 inch freezing snow still coming down. I caught a CSX GP30 Road Slug that said "For Rentail Only" in the window and coupled to it was a CSX GP40-2. That was all I saw. Sat at, I know you probably have no clue where this is, but at the Arlington Street, Akron, OH crossing for 35 minutes, nothing came. But atleast I got those locos.

Alec--everyone in my school says the Steelers were cheating (Boo on them). They tell me one of the players landed on the ground and through the ball across the line and they counted it as a touchdown. I don't know if you noticed this because I didn't. Then again, there were some that said his head was on the other side of the line [ I feel I agree with this]. Oh well, Steelers won, Seahawks lost. But at least I was rooting for the Steelers. LOL

By the way, I now am less than 500 photos away from having 1,000 on rrpicturearchives.net! But no editor's pics, darn it!

And Matthew- I'm not just saying this out of kindness, but I have no clue why either of your two pics weren't editor's pics. I would've chose those. Also, are you going to upload those pics you posted a page or two ago of the Metra and CNs? Those would be a nice addition to your collection. Just out of curiousity.

  • Howdy folks...

Colin- thats a great shot! Do you have any that show the dise of the loco, I would love to see that!

Noah- I actually did get out yesterday (not to brag or make you feel bad) ( my dad wanted to fan the BNSF) so we went to a yard.... check out my railpictures.net page for the pictures............

So the Steelers won, eh? I did not watch the game, I was railfanning, and then I came home in time for the half time show ( I am a big Rolling Stones fan) watched the half time showm the worked on the MRR.....

Well , I have lots of HW, as usual, so I will be going.
