  • Yeah, I saw that too. It's a number 6 switch too, so it should be pretty good for running most locomotives and rolling stock. I'd say it looks like it's about right for you, and it's certainly a great price.

    Oh come on, grow up....

O,IM sooo sorry that I wasnt born into a super rich family that can afford to pay that much for switches. Some people around here have to actually work for their money. We are certanly not poor, but that is alot, considering I need around 10-15 switches.

  • Well, instead of buying all new track, I have decided to take all of the track from my grandparent's house Now, I have lowered the number of switches to 6, at a cost of $48. That will be paid for by my grandmother, but, should I go with the DCC starter set instead??????

  • Rick-yes I have seen alot of SD80MAC's for both companies CSX has them in the 800-812 area and 804 is 0804 they put a extra number in it weird.NS has them in the 7200 area but not sure I will get the numbers later NS's are used alot in Cresson,PA near Altoona and is the home of the Horseshoe Curve.CSX uses then allover the place.

What is the C40-8 ''edited'' scheme?

All of the CSX C39-8's have been sold to NREX back sometime in Summer to Fall of 2005. I have not seen one that is owned by NREX but they are wondering around.

Although, the pittiful GEVO produced was the AC44CWCTE and AC45CWCTE in my opinion. Those sound like they have had no maintenance for several years! Plus, their horn is weird. And I know that doesn't really matter.

Now, BNSF's ES44ACs rock. Not only do they look awesome in the HIII, but they sound good and also, if I remember correctly, they have good tractive effort. And don't yell at me for saying this if their tractive effort is the same as the others.

For the ES40DCs, I have no opinion, besides the fact they look good in the NS Horsehead scheme that is in smaller font. At least for those that are painted [:D].

Oskar- Have you seen a CSX SD80MAC? I've never seen an SD80MAC or I've also never seen an NS SD80MAC either. Have you seen any? I know Conrail bought 28 only, but still....

And one last question. Which CSX C40-8s are in the "edited" scheme still? If any? And how many are in YN3? I know 7492 is. And what's the news on CSX's 8 C39-8s?

    Just wondering and am curious...

    .............

Frankly, for me, every GE past a widecab Dash-8 looks the same, in fact I didn't know I had some GEVO shots until I looked up the road number.
EMD is not much better, the SD70Ace are unqiue becuase they have those strange cut-offs on the hood. As for the 80 and 90MAC model line; I think they by far have the most personailty of any model active now. I was just at Cresson a week or so a go, most of the 80MAC fleet was there and I just can't get over how imposing they are. 90MACs are the same deal, I've only seen them once when I was in California working on UP trains.
PS- all current models make the same sound, and who really cares about a horn, back in the day, when a new model came out, it was completely new (ie, GP30, SD40) and fun to see. Now they all look the same, but thats the world people are age were born into.
  • Yes, Colin, ditto to what Noah said! This weekend I will have more time to answer a few more questions, but now I am in a mad rush....

Ohhh, and here you might have seen a thread where some jackass is asking why we railfan, and why we have scanners, so I am trolling, and saying that I smelll trains, just to **** him off. I am not high, just trolling...its kinda fun!

  • Okay, got back the roll of print film. No ES44DCs, which sound better than the ACs for some reason..but SD70M-2s!
This is the roll of print film I shot on Sunday.
I was sitting in my hotel room with my parents one night, when I see a CN SD70M-2 go by the window. So I put on my shoes and start running with the camera, my parent's words ringing in my ears.."You'll never make it!"
But I did! Unfortunately lighting was quite poor

Then this train came by while I was snapping pix.

And I continued on the SD70M-2

Then I watched VIA's Canadian getting ready to depart Jasper station.

Right beside it, I found this beauty!

Then I went further east and found the Spiderman 2 F40 on the recently arrived Skeena. Sorry about the quality. The first pic was the furthest back I could get, darn hedge! not to mention the first pic is tipped..

Then I started heading back towards the station and took a couple more pix.

I'm a little perplexed by this..one side is blurred and the other isnt??

Then the Skeena came out to be wyed for it's trip to Prince Rupert, and I took a bunch of pics.

Then they swapped the power while another train went by.

Finally, the Skeena at the station finishes my roll.

I might upload some more pics to this album, so keep an eye on http://photobucket.com/albums/b274/trainboysd40/Jasper%202006/?sc=1
If you could criticize the VIA photos, that would be great.
No personal notes, but what the hey, eh? :P

  • Awesome shots Matthew! Nice CN SD70M-2!

Oskar- The edited CSX scheme is basically the old "stealth" with an added yellow nose and rear. It is mostly on their Geeps.

Also, the NS SD80MACs are 7200-7216. CSX is 800-812. 811 is not on the rrpicturearchives roster. And weirdly, CSX kept the number 0804. I'm surprised. It read 0804 while still in Conrail paint. Note: CSX 800 was lettered "Spirit of Benning" in late 2003 or early 2004.

Jdirelan-Here's how I tell the new GEVOs. I listen to their weird horn. I look at the radiators and also how the nose of a ES44 unit is almost the same as that of a C40-8W. But the difference is the ES44 unit has a nose headlight.

The rest........well, let's just say that's a long story. There's too many ways I identify each loco.

Oskar-I always miss the SD80MACs. They must be rare considering there was only 28 sold. But I'm trying to think...did Susquehanna (NYSW) buy any SD80MACs or were they on long term lease from Conrail or NS?

    Thanks

  • Matthew, some nice pictures!! Looks like you have a good trip railfanning wise.

Not much new again, although school was muy boring today. And, I've got a few over-the-weekend projects to do, which sucks. But, I have been geting a little work done on the stuff for the module. I've been working on cutting out the roof, and it's comming well. I really can't wait to get it done. And hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the weekend.

I'm going to head out, I've got way to many things to do this weekend. Afterall, the train show that I'll be displaying at is only 15 days way......

  • Hey, everyonw who has posted photos, they are all great, just thought i would say hi, not much going on at home, school has gone back, and i am [censored][censored][censored] about it. i have been on the web looking at some traibns down in australia, found some good train crash websites. most noone got killed in, so don't think i am enjoying death. i will give some links to the site if you want. just reply to this post, and say so.

p.s. i made 100 posts, and feel great.
  • the CSX C40-8's in monified paint are 7509,7587,7588 and the YN3 paint C40-8's are CSX 7492,7497,7591, and 7599.

NYSW did not get any SD80MAC's on lease from CR or NS but NYSW has their SD70's on long term lease to the Indiana and Ohio.

  • Hey everyone.
Just back from the ice hockey game in Princeton. Quite a game, lots of checking. Well, heading off to bed, going to get up early to go to the Philly Auto Show tomorrow.

  • Matt, those shots are imncredible! Nice new CN power, too!
    Ohh, well, I gotta run..

  • We finally got some more snow!!!! After probably two or three weeks of having a bare lawn that was practically starting to turn Green, Reedsburg had finally been covered with snow again. It's not much, it's only about a half an inch, but I means I get some more money for shoveling so I can spend some more on the module. So I've started my Saturday off being extremely happy. I've been watching a little of my Pentrex Working on the Railroad tape about MoW equipment this morning too, so that puts me in a good mood.

I suppose I should head out and get some more work done on the module. After all, I've only got two weekends and about 15 days till the show if you count today. And I've got a lot to do yet!

Edit: Chris I was going to ask, have you read the latest Trains mag(March 06) and the article on the MRL's new SD70ACes? According to the article, some of the F45s will be going into storage now that the new locomotive have arrived, and it's sad to hear it. I'd check out the article for all the details, it's pretty good.
