TEEN RAILFAN PLACE-LET'S TALK TRAINS! Thread Locked

  • jdirelan, You do have some pretty awesome shots on rp.net. If those aren't your favorites, I'd like to see the ones that are your favorite.

For hosting railroad photos, try www.railimages.com It's Free, easy to use, and they let any rail-related photo on (No screening). It's what I use for my model railroad shots and stuff, it works well.

I can see where your comming from when you state your opinion about our photography, but I have to believe you could have stated it in a way that was a little nicer. I don't hold it against you though. Hopefully you'll become a regular here, it's nice to have another person who does good photography and is knowledgeable on the subject.

Well guys, had another round of exams today. Nothing horrible, but nothing great either. But I am tired, and I still have to study for more tests tomorrow. I'm going to head off for the time being, but I'll check back in.

jdirelan- all I can say is TROLL Dude, this place is abuot freindship, and a love for railroading, not coming in and acting like you are better than us. Show us some respect buddy, and maybe we (or at least I) will respect you.

THIS IS A PAGE LATE BUT......
PLEASE you guys here me out on this one..... I have always been the shunned one at things like railfan weekends or other shoots. That is mainly baised on the fact that I didn't have the expensive cameras, but that dosen't make me bad at taking pictures. Most of the "profesionals" have thease couple grand camereas that they could right off in a week on a pay check, but for me it took years of saving to get my SLR. Just because we are younger dosen't mean we are not capable of things. Sure I'm still new in the photo taking world and my pictures arn't great but they seam nice to me, i have never been told how to do anything with my camera I teach myself. I don't want toget involved in any arguments but I just want this place to be an area that railfans, no mater their satus, can come and chat isn't that what it's all about?[:)]
    See yee lator

  • I just got back form doing a set of custom decals for a customer. They look great and were hard as hell to make.
  • jdirelan, I really like the first one on that page, much more artistic than anything I'd ever attempt. My main gripe with them is that they rejected this the first time around..http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=124248
You may remember it as the photo of the week...And I was joking around a bit in my last post. My other photo is a well lit 3/4 wedge, but at least it's just a roster shot and not me trying something artistic..
Tommy, we're not ignoring you, and we don't want you to leave! But what are you talking about when you say that you thought this was a site where you wouldn't get laughed at for liking tranis? You're not being laughed at at all!
MSTS stopped working for me again, it keeps saying that it can't form shapes..
James, that's a great drawing! I gotta get back to mine..
    Kale, you're totally right, eh?
PennFan, what were they decals of?

  • NO MORE RP.NET!!! All that results in arguements.
    jdirenan:
I do wonder why you say, "maybge its just because you are a railfan going thru highschool".
Why would that matter? Im a railfan and a jock, yes I run with the "in" crowd you could say. (dont worry im not stuck up)lol
You do seem like you could bring some good thoughts here.
Anyways, James, i have never seen more than 3 trains at Saunder before.....

  • Well in my time I have seen about 7 trains in an hour and a half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![}:)] It's called "PACIENTS". Have you ever heard of the saying, "pacients is a virtue".......
This is one thing you don't have and a railfan needs this more than ever to watch trains MAX!!!!!![}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)] lol!!! Dork!

  • trainboyH16-44, thats a great shot and I would most def say if was better than my AC6000 shot at stony point. I wish I could show some of my slides (I just switched to digital this month), I think you would like them.
    We both know the reason they where rejected, because it was a going away shot. Once again that just another example of the short sighteness of the screeners at RP.net. Not to beat a dead horse but here are a the four I got rejected (I don't know how long the link is good for);

PS-coborn35, to be honest, I played baseball for 4 years in high school and now I'm in Naval ROTC, so I geuss I could be called a jock too (although I don't really like to be). What I meant was most teenage railfans I knew where so into trains that they couldn't give anything else the time of day and where always out of place. But thats enough, I sure nobody here whats a pschology lesson, least of all me...
  • Okay, listen....nobody in my shool even knows I like trains. I kinda flamed you becasue you came in here and I felt a bit patronized...

So, John, can we please put this behind us???
  • Lol, rgroeling, I touched you went out of your way to find my first name. Yea, I never had a problem with any of guys in the first place. I'll be the first to admitt, I was a big *** when I first came on but no harm no foul, right boys? Besides, like that Lt. say in the moive U-571 "we're all playing for the same team."
PS- if any of you boys are in the PIttburgh area, I'd be more than happy to show you around.
    Word to your mother
  • hey thanks.... and as you said.."no harm no foul"...dude, I looked at your pics....AWESOME..you have some serious skills...please...please..look at mine...maybe you can bet a better feel for what I am about...the two links are in my signature.

Glad we could clear this up, and now, I can officially welcome you to "our place"..may you become a regular![:D]

And thanks for the offer...but I live in Chicago..lol!
  • So, I took a look see at your RP.net pics and I think (and so does the view counter) that 129249 and 121836 are by far the best. One thing I notice, one since those shots where taken so far from home, I gonna guess that your you took a bunch of others that got rejected (less so for the Montana shots I assume). The second thing I notice is that you thanked some one for cropping the shot I liked the most 129249.
SO, I pose this to you; instead of having to photoshop your shots to look like that just taken them like that. The rest are nice rooster shots, not really my cup of tea. Also, I assume by the grainy nautre of the shots that you where using the cypershot for these pics. If at all possialbe STEAL THE D70 from your dad. I got a D70s and sometimes I can't beleve I still not shooting flim. Believe, when you get better at your craft, the quailty of camera is HUGE and a cypershot ain't gonna cut.
As for the price of a D70s, I worked for my as a ref from my universtiy's intermual teams. Its worth every penny I promise.
  • Nah, he didn;t crop that one...he brightened it a bit...I am not the best photoshopper..yet...and this guy just offered to help me out.. VERY nice of him!

Yes, I do have this nasty problem of taking the smae darn picture over and over again...you see, I will go to a hotspot, stand in the same darn place, and shoot every train that heads my way....I NEED TO GET CREATIVE!!!!

And which ones were grainy??? These were with the cyber shot...

    http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=124504
    http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=124447
    http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=121520
    http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=124443

The rest were wiht dads D70... and yes..as I get older and more responible...my dad lets me use the Nikon more and more...in fact, I havent touched my cybershot since last June!

Thanks you for the advice, and I realize that I need to stop taking 3/4 shots (which I happen to like) and get more creative (ike you, I love how each one of your photos is a bit different than the other, you make them very interesting)

So, I ask this of you...do yopu have any tips for an idiot photographer like myself???

EDIT:::: Kevin, I know how ya feel, dude!!! I have been taking 155 question finals all week..I feel your pain.!!!
