  • May I see the photos??? I already have 31 (not bragging) so I know what they want, and I would be nmore than happy to help you...[:)]RICHARD-- I promise I will help you, but I cant right now, as I must stufy for finals..can we resume this conversation later this week?? THANKS[8D]
  • Well don't ask me about photos I am still learning. In fact I just got a wide angle lens for my 35mm camera, and I should be able to go try it out tomorow with some railfanning, to bad it is rainy.
  • Richard,

I can tell you why those photos were rejected ('cause I've had plenty of my own, although I have had 52 excepted too). Basically none of them are railpictures.net quality. Not that they are bad photos, and most of them are good, but none of them are RP.net stuff. Here are the basic reasons I can come up with(not all of these apply to every photo, different reasons apply for different photos):

    Too dark/Partially cloudy
A going away shot (RP don't like that)
You are too far from the locomotives, there is too much extra space infront of the locomotive. RP.net likes you to be right next to the locomotive, with very little space around the locomotive (Unless it is extra special scenery, not just railroad tracks or industrial buildings)
Obstructing foreground objects, there is stuff in the way of the locomotive
& a few just have a bad photo quality, either they aren't sharp enough, are grainy, or are blurry.

They are still good photos (Expecially the one of the local going away from the camera), but none are rp.net quality. Don't worry, you'll get stuff into rp.net. I've been submitting for close to three years, and most of my 52 shots that are accepted have only come in the last year or so. I've learned what truely makes a good photo, and how to have an eye for composition. You will too, it just takes time.

I only wish I lived a little closer to a busy mainline like the guys in Chicago do. It rare that I get to go railfanning, or I think I'd have my photography perfected even more.

Well guys, another usual day at school. Mid-terms start tomorrow, so I better head off to study. [sigh]

  • Just taking a beak from my rigeruous studing for finals....yeah, Richard Noah pretty much summed up what I was going to say..but I have stuff that I would like tell you in addition to that when I have time...

Noah-- I feel very lucky to live where I do (from a railfan perspective) because I cannot go any where and not stumble upon tracks! However, I despise big cities...

  • Noah- Thanks! You know what, that is weird! Out of the photos I took on the fifteenth, the local headed away from the camera seemed to be my favorite aswell! I think it is because it is mostly locomotives. But I think the telephone poles and the fact it was headed away from the camera was why they rejected it. They told me that specific photo was rejected for obstructing objects. Oh well, as you said, I'll eventually get one excepted!!!

Alec- are you saying I'd need a cannon or something? Because my parents deny to get me a cannon! They say it's too expensive. Currently I have a Kodak C300 because my plan of getting a Cannon went down the tubes. How about Nikon, is that a good company? Just let me know what camera would be best. Also what does 4 and ^ is almost a must mean?

Anybody else feel cruddy going back to school this morning? Today had to be one of my worse days ever. I was tired and nearly fell asleep during half of the lessons! I'll let you in on a little secret---I even didn't copy down some of the notes we were taking in Intervention. That's one plus for sitting near the back where teachers often don't go! LOL

But can't wait for this weekend!!! As long as this rain we have heads out the door and sunshine comes in, my plans of going to Greenwich, OH (Crossroads of CSX) and Willard, OH (CSX Rail Yard including rarities) with my friend are on!!! Let's hope it finally happens and doesn't get canceled for the third week!

Your camera doesnt have optical zoom im guessing? Rule of thumb, NEVER USE DIGITAL ZOOM. All of the shots i took with all digital zoom sucked. There is no detail and its all pixilated. Keep trying, but If you want to get on RPics, i suggest trying to get a better camera, i remember you talking about your dad getting an SLR or something.

4 and up is in sense of MPs. I got a fairly cheap 5 MP camera, does well. Its a Olympus FE110 and it has 2.8 optical zoom, its not the best but it does well if you dont zoom too far. I got my cam for about 200 bucks, so its a good deal. Ya, im not surprised you got denied a SLR lol, big bucks.

  • Luckily I didn't try submitting that photo, because I knew it was no use. The same thing happened on a couple other photos I took that day.

And no, I don't believe my camera has optical zoom. Like I said, all I have is this little Kodak C300. What type of camera should I save up to get? What do you use?

EDIT: Sorry, I was still typing my post before I read yours. My cmaera has 3.2 MP.

And by the way, I only submitted photos I thought might have a chance.

i never get to go railfanning. it is about 25 miles to the nearest line that has maybe 3 trains on it a day.

I will have some pictures of my layout tommorow. it is pretty crappy, with almost no scenery, but it is mine.

more news, this time about real trains, in australia. I have just found out that all or sydney's non airconditioned commuter trains are being phased out in 2010. also the diesel ,single deck railcars non airconditioned whitch serve the hunter reigion (north of sydney) will be phased out in mid 2006. they will also be getting sometime soon some new western suburbs trains. this is becaust sydney, while small in population it is the largest city in the world by size. it can be a hot journey, especially during the hot summers that we get here.

i will go back on the website and gety some photos of the various trains that we get in sydney.
http://www.cityrail.info/aboutus/trains/index.jsp this is the link to the cityrail website, it has some interesting stuff about the commuter trains that are used in sydney.
