  • One day railfan trip report, includes rarities!!!:

First we paid a visit through Newton Falls, OH not to railfan but to have a bite to eat.

Right as we were coming under the railroad bridge their, a Powder River Coal lead by two HII BNSF's came flying by. The first was an C44-9W and the second was a SD70MAC. They had some HIII Open Hoppers! I didn't get pictures [V].

Then as we were leaving suddenly a CSX C40-8W and HLCX SD40-2 rushed by. I had no time to snap the locos so my parents raced it but the road curved. Befor eit curved I got these two rolling stock photos out the car window:

    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266829

Then after all of that, we headed down to Alliance OH. Busy NS hotspot. It was very cold today!!! And got all these photos:

First came a C40-9W and RC SD40-2 pulling a intermodal. The shot came out 7/10.

Then my dad shot the tail end while I fooled with the video camera. My ahir was blowing.
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266834

After that train, a local came around the bend with about a dozen cars. It had four locos:
    GP38-2 Rebuild
    GP38-2 High Nose
    GP38AC
    GP50

    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266837
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266859

At the end of the local were three blue gondolas carrying weird blue equiptment.
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266860

Then not long after around the bend came a manifest lead by Dash 9s. 9983 was up front. NS is getting close to 9999.
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266861
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266862

In the middle came this scrap car with weird reporting marks---wanted to share!
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266863

Then we went over to the Whitestone Industry for a little while and came across some weird stuff.
First was this strange thing, do you guys know what on earth this is? It looks similar to a railgrainder but I doubt it.
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266864
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266865

Then we came across the elusive Whitestone locomotive!!!! It's a B Series unit. If you don't know who Whitestone is, it's a big stone company that served Conrail and still serves NS big time!!! Only one, if not a few of these locos are around!!!
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266867

Oh and some of the photos are a little blurry because I was zooming pretty far.

The next shots are at Akron's Brittain Yard for WLE. I caught ABCR 1502 again and had my first sighting of WE 2650! Here they are. The first shot seemed neat because of the geese in the river and the railcars in the back.
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266868

These rest are locos. A couple are zoomed so they are a little blurry.
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266870
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266872
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266873
    http://unicapital.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=266874

    Enjoy!!!

  • Just keep telling ur self that big guy.
  • Hey that's right. NS doesn't own any units numbered 1. I think they should rid of those old GP18s. And even replace some of their GP38 series which is huge! And also don't forget they still have holes and gaps in their Dash 9 series too. I wi***hey'd fill some of these in with SD70M-2s and ES40DCs.

My Kerr Roster shows by this year NS is supposed to own SD70M-2s from 2649-2700.
Also, their ES40DCs should be from 7500-7614.
