Keats, you've got some awesome photos of that sucker all right. Those are really about the best shots I've seen of the unit so far, for sure the best of it in action. A friend and I had contemplated chasing the train but decided not to, we went to the Illinois Railway Museum instead. But at least I can see it through great photos like yours!

I have finally done something.

I am now working on a website. You could probably guess what kind of Website it is since I like the Milwaukee road so much. The site is named Milwaukee road memories, and will hopefully be up in running in the next month. If you have any questions on the milwaukee road this site should answer them. Like I said it should be up in running in about a month.

BTW: That CN&W unit looks good!!I wonder if there going to paint them with all of the long gone railroads.

That would be cool, especially if one is painted for the Milwaukee road.

ya don't see CP repainting any units into herritage sceams......the only reason UP is doing the herritage sceams is so they can say that they still use the old railroads logos........so they can copyright them...........BUT THEY ARE PURDY!!!!!!

Another reason CP isn't doing any herritage schemes is because they haven't bought any major, popular railroads execpt the (the D&H and Soo don't count, they where basicly shortlines that thought they were major players, more so the D&H). Plus, as I said ealier, you don't have to use a copyright to hold it, THAT IS NOT THE REASON UP IS DOING THIS.

Of all the major American class ones (I don't know that much about CP/CN) UP is the about the only one that cares about its past, they even have a muesum not only about themselfs but also about the railroads that have become apart of the system over the years. Go to NS, CSX and BNSF websites, you can't even find the names of the railroads that made them, let alone any history about them.

I don't understand why everybody here hates UP so much, if anything it is the least corprate railraod of them all.

I also got to do a little railfanning this morning. I caught a Union Pacific Ballast train loading at their quarry in Rock Springs Wisconsin. He had a GE unit on the point, which is quite rare on this line. Normally all we get is two or three SD40-2s. Here's a shot of the train:

Well I better get going, I've got a lot of stuff to do yet today in the way of modeling. I've been kind of slacking on working on my model related stuff lately, so it's time to get going before summer runs out on me!

Geez summer is running out on me I got 12 weekdays left and with the weekend day I have 16 days left. Man it sucks!

Got to see some trains in Greenwood,SC didn't see that much besides a former MPI now HLCX which still had MPI lettering clearly shown on its LH, plus it had Kunudson under 9041 because its a Morrison and Kunudson rebuilt, 1 HLCX in blue and white and a HLCX in Red paint, besides basic stuff on trains.

I just don't understand why UP has to get the rights to it's predissor roads...if you look in say the Walthers new releases or sales books behined all the models like Cnw or Mopac ect. they have a * after them and on the bottom of the page there is a key saying " * Union Pacific licensed product"  UP is charging the model r.r. companys to use "their" paint sceams. I was talking to a ATLAS represenative @ the march o scale meet in  Chicago (whent w/ james schultz and fauther) and he said that they may have to charge more for the UP models because of the price of buying the rights to use the sceams from the r.r.   I can understand wanting to copyright the paint sceams but i don't get why they don't just give the model companys the rights to the sceams for free????

When you buy a company, you buy all apsects of the company (examples would include things like techology, manufactoring methods and logo, names and even phrases). For example, the PRR crest and name are owned by Norfolk Southern as is Conrail and Penn Central.

The fact that model companies haven't had to pay a charge until now is amazing. I can't think of any other examples in buinesss were a company allows another to make a profit off its copyright for free. Plus, how much are the prices really increasing? Perhaps a dollar or so per model? I would image that model companies pay a flat rate for the copyrights and depending on how many units they sale, the increase decreases. If the price is increasing its not because of UP but because of poor sales from Atlas.

Believe it or not, the new Atlas CGW S1 is a UP licensed product

CGW merged with C&NW who merged with UP, thus Union Pacific owns the rights to Chicago Great Western. Not hard to believe at all.

Well, it is a little far back....it's amazing that corporate copyrights can be passed down like that - Next they'll be charging to paint rocks in Ug Pacific Rockroad - Incorporated 39 458BC....the copyright to which is written on two stone tablets that the first president brought down from some mountain...

This is basically the only really good picture I got from Jasper - Seeing as they bastards sent one of my rolls to the wrong person! (I don't like this new lab - The processing lab in Edmonton closed down, so we have to send our slides all the way to MARKHAM! (Ontario!!))

And no, I wasn't standing on the tracks for any of those! Good ol' telephoto does the trick, after all...all three of those were taken with the film pushed one stop to 200ISO from 100, so it's interesting how they turned out.
Now, let's get to the rejects and ones I didn't bother submitting! Or at least I'll edit them in in a sec...

A few mnutes later the fron truck fell off the lead loco (The UP one) and we all told him that's what he gets for doubleheading UP and DRGW Challangers in that fashion....the stuff on the left side of the pic is because the processors screwed up shile scanning, almost my entire roll is like that. That's why I'm missing the fron the the DRGW Challanger.

Here are some shots taken during about an hour of railfanning in which I cut myself up rather badly because of a wet, broken sandal slipping off a bike pedal constantly - I paced the train with the 3 beaver GP38-2s for about a mile, too.
